Former Coronation Street star Kym Marsh has spoken about reports that she has left Waterloo Road.
The actor has played canteen worker Nicky Walters since the school-based drama’s revival in 2023, and has been at the centre of many storylines.
Nicky turned to crime to make ends meet, while her kids Preston and Tonya have both had major health issues. The character also had an on-off relationship with Donte Charles.
Although nothing has been made official, there has been speculation that Marsh has left Waterloo Road, and she referenced them in a new interview with The Independent while promoting her role in play Abigail’s Party.
She said that she had recently read reports that she had left the show “because I’m heading towards 50 and I broke up with my ‘toy-boy boyfriend'”.
While she neither confirmed nor denied the Waterloo Road rumour, she did rubbish the idea that her career choices are influenced by the things claimed.

She said: “Sorry, you think that the decisions in my life are based on how old I am and who I’ve broken up with?
“I mean, even when I’ve been doing interviews for jobs, people have asked me about my love life. I actually said to somebody once, ‘Tell me about your love life’. It’s just nonsense.”

Marsh added that she is enjoying her theatre work and has no immediate plans to return to Corrie, as she’s “very much flying by the seat of my pants and seeing what happens”.
“I’ve been pretty successful in my career and continuing to make moves there. I feel good about where I am,” she concluded.
