A medical professional has revealed a “superfood” that we should all be incorporating into our diets, and if you’re already doing so, there’s a right way to do it.
On TikTok, the expert shared the numerous benefits of this food and how it could potentially lower cancer risks. The NHS F3 Doctor Arthur, also known as @dr_arthur_, disclosed what the must-try food is in his video. Labeling it a “superfood” in the caption, he emphasized that there’s “one thing to never forget to eat with it”.
He explained the advantages of the spice and suggested that simply adding a few grinds of pepper could enhance its benefits by up to 2,000%.
He stated: “Turmeric is arguably one of the healthiest foods you can eat, but you are probably eating it wrong.” Citing a study, he claimed it’s a “pretty good study that goes into pretty much every benefit of turmeric we know so far.”

According to the findings published on the National Library of Medicine (NLM), turmeric “has long been recognised for its medicinal properties, has received interest from both the medical/scientific world and from culinary enthusiasts, as it is the major source of the polyphenol curcumin.”, reports Surrey Live.
“It aids in the management of oxidative and inflammatory conditions, metabolic syndrome, arthritis, anxiety, and hyperlipidemia. It may also help in the management of exercise-induced inflammation and muscle soreness, thus enhancing recovery and performance in active people.”
Health guru Dr. Michael Mosley has highlighted the incredible benefits of a common spice, which he calls a “superfood.”
He points out that studies have shown it to be an “anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial” powerhouse with potential “anti-cancer properties.”
Emphasizing its safety, he notes: “Turmeric has no notable side-effects and no toxic levels which means even if the evidence wasn’t there for turmeric being so good, which it is, it’s not going to do you any harm to have anyway.”
He also reveals a crucial tip for unlocking its full potential: “And in one study when combined with two other ingredients, it can actually be more effective than naproxen for knee pain. The reason you’ve probably been taking it wrong is that it has terrible bioavailability which means it’s barely absorbed at all by the gut.”
But there’s a simple fix: “However when you take it with black pepper, initial absorption which is very rubbish, increases by 2000% meaning 20 times more of the turmeric is absorbed into the body so the benefits can actually benefit you.”
So, when sprinkling this spice into your next dish, like a curry, Mosley advises: “Make sure you have a few grains of pepper and and you will then get the benefits.”
Further good news comes from a study published on NLM, which suggests that “A relatively low dose of the complex can provide health benefits for people that do not have diagnosed health conditions. Most of these benefits can be attributed to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects.”
The study explains the importance of pepper, stating: “Piperine is the major active component of black pepper and, when combined in a complex with curcumin, has been shown to increase bioavailability by 2000%. Curcumin combined with enhancing agents provides multiple health benefits.”
So, what can you whip up that includes turmeric and black pepper?
Dr Punam Krishan, a regular on BBC Morning Live, has shared her go-to drink for boosting health. Not only is it tasty, but she also describes it as having “healing powers” that can fortify the immune system – and it contains both of these key ingredients.
With cold and flu season upon us, the Glasgow-based GP says now is the perfect time to make her “mum’s trusted golden milk.”
She dubs it “a healing hug in a mug,” and you can find the full recipe here.
