Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies finally breaks his silence to address growing fan concerns and reveals what the future holds for the iconic BBC series.

Doctor Who showrunner Russel T Davies has responded to fans waiting for a series renewal with bated breath.

Following the jaw-dropping return of Billie Piper in season 2’s final episode, Whovians have been asking for answers about what it all means. However, it seems that the show hasn’t received a season 3 order at BBC and Disney+ just yet.

In a column on Doctor Who Magazine, Davies has said he’s confident Doctor Who will “never end” though he shared he didn’t know what the future held for the show at the moment.

“We don’t know what’s happening yet,” he wrote, announcing that he would be taking “a pause” from writing for the publication “while everyone works that out”.

“Hopefully, we’ll have news soon,” he added.

Davies suggested that Doctor Who will always exist in some form, teasing possible continuations of the story as he’d envisioned it so far.

“There are pathways leading to potential futures — we’ve still got the mystery of that bright and blazing ending, ‘Oh, hello,’ yes indeed, hello Billie!”

As for Piper, the star commented on returning to the series as Ncuti Gatwa bowed out.

The finale’s classic regeneration scene suggested that Piper would take his place, but she told fans “to wait and see” the specifics of her comeback.

“To be given the opportunity to step back on that TARDIS one more time was just something I couldn’t refuse, but who, how, why and when, you’ll just have to wait and see,” she teased as she was reluctant to share more details of her upcoming role.
