It’s set to be a huge week in EastEnders next week, as Ben Wadey takes over as Executive Producer. He takes over from Chris Clenshaw, whose final episode aired tonight.

It was a heartwarming final episode from Chris, as Kat and Alfie finally got their happy ending. The pair tied the knot for a third time, despite Kat calling off the wedding at the end of Thursday’s episode.

Monday will mark Ben Wadey’s first episode in charge – but those hoping to sit down at 6am to watch on BBC iPlayer will have to think again. On Monday (June 16) EastEnders will simulcast on BBC One and BBC iPlayer at 7.30pm,

It comes as Ben teases “the start of something big in Walford,” which he hopes will get everyone talking.

Speaking on his first week in charge, Ben said: “Next week marks the start of something big in Walford that we hope will get everyone talking, and it’s only just the beginning. We’ve got twists, shocks, and plenty of drama lined up for a summer you don’t want to miss.”

 

The stars have already hinted at some huge storylines to come later this year, as they spoke exclusively to the Mirror at the British Soap Awards. Shane Richie, who plays Alfie Moon, teased a huge storyline amid rumours of a return for Zoe Slater.

Shane revealed new executive producer Ben Wadey had huge things planned for the show. The actor told us: “He has told me some things. I said let me sit down.

“There’s fireworks, there’s Kat and Alfie. There is a story that is about to kick in, which will carry on through to after Christmas. Honestly it’s a big story. If you thought the 40th was big wait until you see this story. That’s all I’m saying.“

Meanwhile, Jacqueline Jossa, who plays Lauren Branning spoke on the rumours of a return for her onscreen father Max Branning (Jake Wood). She teased: “I’ve heard some rumbles.

“I heard Kate Oates’ source say maybe there are gonna be some returns and for me that excites me, whoever it is.“ While she did not give away who was coming back, she seemed to give away it’s more than one character.

 

“I have seen the rumours. I feel like you would have to ask Ben [Wadey], I’d love it. They tell us nothing. I feel like they tell me nothing because if they tell me, I will tell the world by accident,“ she laughed.
