Having been away from the cobbles for nearly a decade, Jason’s sudden appearance leaves everyone stunned and temporarily steals the spotlight from George’s romantic gesture. The emotional reunion and the interrupted proposal set the stage for an eventful week in Weatherfield, full of heartfelt surprises and new beginnings.

Jason’s homecoming couldn’t come at a better time, as Eileen faces Julie Carp’s funeral accused of aiding her sister’s death.

“Eileen’s having a nightmare day when Jason beams into the Rovers like a ray of sunshine – fresh off the plane from Thailand,” our Corrie source explains. “It happens just as George is confessing his wish to marry her!”

As the week begins, suspicion surrounding the role that Eileen played in her sister’s passing spirals after the painkillers found in Julie’s system are revealed to be drugs prescribed for Eileen, not Julie.

This news prompts an innocuous remark from Brian Packham, prompting furious Eileen to ban him from the funeral.

Meanwhile, George is clearly feeling sidelined and confides in Todd Grimshaw that, no matter how hard he tries, all he seems to do is annoy Eileen.

So, imagine his horror when the day of Julie’s funeral dawns – and Eileen accuses him of ruining the whole thing.

“Eileen is looking for someone to blame after it kicks off at the wake,” explains our insider.

“She’s given a letter written by Julie for Brian and the contents reveal that Eileen is the only person who stands to benefit from Julie’s life insurance policy.

“Eileen insists that she knew nothing about it until after Julie’s death, but that doesn’t stop the gossips from putting in their two cents worth – particularly when Tracy accuses Eileen of plotting Julie’s demise for the money!”

Heartbroken with the way the day has unfolded, Eileen turns on George. However, that’s not enough to make him want to give up on her.

As the mourners celebrate Julie by playing her ‘dream’ game, George tells Eileen that his dream is for them to tie the knot.

The pub falls quiet, and the look on Eileen’s face is a picture. She’s not equipped to deal with George’s sudden marriage proposal, least of all after burying her sister.

But then, as if a gift from the heavens – or perhaps even Julie herself – Jason blesses his mum with the most wonderful surprise: he’s home!
