Emmerdale is waving goodbye to some big characters in the coming weeks and months with one airing on Friday night, as the ITV soap aired an abrupt departure

There was a speedy exit from one character on Emmerdale on Friday night, five years after their debut.

The character would have celebrated six years on the ITV soap later in the year, but in the latest episode they bid farewell. Wendy Posner had a dramatic week, after her secrets and lies were exposed.

As a result she fell out with her friends and colleagues, and she split from her partner Bob Hope. Wendy had been found out for spilling stories to a journalist about her village pals, delving into their private lives.

Under threat was her own lie about her medical career, her prison stint and other details, so she threw her friends under the bus instead. But as the truth came out Wendy decided it was time to leave the village for good.

It was only this week that an exit storyline was even teased, and up until this point there was no indication that Wendy was leaving so soon. That said, reports emerged weeks ago that actress Susan Cookson had been written out of the show and was leaving the role at some point in the year.

Fans immediately assumed this could be her exit plot, but many were surprised by how quickly it all played out. On Friday she said goodbye to her loved ones, including grandson Harry, and left the village for good.

She revealed she was reuniting with her son Luke, moving away and leaving the village to stay with him. It was said the door would be kept open for a return while other characters may not get that luxury.

There’s two confirmed deaths on the way and many more teased. Anthony Fox will be murdered in a brutal whodunnit next week on the soap as another cast member bows out of the show.

Further into the year we will be losing Leyla Harding who is set to be killed off in devastating scenes. Brenda Walker is also confirmed to be leaving, while it’s thought she won’t be killed off.

As for other characters, there’s a few teased to be at risk with fears they may be killed off. Caleb Miligan has a looming hospital dash, while Joe Tate appears to be hiding something health related.

Mackenzie Boyd will feature in a storyline that could see him in a danger, while someone else is killed and left in a bodybag – then again this could be Anthony. A funeral scene teased another death too, with Cain Dingle seen mourning.
