Recent Emmerdale scenes saw Liam Cavanagh suffer a panic attack, but something doesn’t sit right.
Liam was attacked by John Sugden in a case of mistaken identity, with Mack being the true target.
Since the attack, Liam has struggled and even suffered a panic attack at work. Here we outline the flaws in this story.

Liam suffers panic attack at work
Last week, John was determined to get revenge on Mack, after Mack tried to ruin his relationship with Aaron. However, John made a mistake and ended up hitting Liam over the head with a log instead.
John disappeared, but quickly returned to the scene to save the day – obviously. Since then, John has managed to worm his way back into Liam’s good books.
During Tuesday’s episode, Claudette accidentally knocked a plant on the floor, scaring Liam and causing him to have a panic attack.
The smash took him back to the moment he was attacked and he suddenly found himself feeling overwhelmed and struggling for breath.
John, of course, was on hand to save the day and helped to calm Liam down. Liam later told John that his skills were invaluable and urged him to continue working at the surgery.
Why Liam having a panic attack in Emmerdale makes no sense

Why did Liam never have a panic attack before?
While being the target of what Liam believes was a random attack is obviously pretty scary, this isn’t the first time Liam has suffered any trauma.
Just this year alone, Liam almost died in the limo crash and he was held at knifepoint by Ella. But surely the worst of the trauma was being a victim of evil Meena Jutla.
Liam was a witness in Meena’s trial, in which he had to relive all she had done, including the time he woke up in bed next to her as part of twisted plot to get pregnant as well as when he pushed her off a bridge when she taunted him about his daughter Leanna’s death.
None of these incidents caused Liam to suffer a panic attack, leading us to believe it’s just a convenient plot device to continue John’s heroism storyline.
Why show Liam a photo of his daughter?
Speaking of Leanna, while John was attempting to bring Liam out of his panic attack, he placed a photo of Leanna in front of him.
Would looking at Leanna not bring back memories of her murder back, which would most definitely not help calm him down.
Leanna Cavanagh died on her 18th birthday in 2021 after being pushed from a bridge by Meena. Meena later taunted Liam about the murder, telling him Leanna had been stupid and how she had enjoyed killing her.
Would those thoughts not rile Liam up more rather than help him to relax?
Liam is a doctor
Not to diminish John’s skills as a paramedic, but as a GP surely Liam would be fully versed in managing the symptoms of a panic attack.
Of course it’s hard to focus when having a panic attack, but Liam seemed at a complete loss when usually reciting tips for getting through a panic attack would be like reciting for alphabet for him.
