In Emmerdale last night (Wednesday, April 9), John Sugden visited someone at the hospital – but could it be a recast version of Jamie Tate?
It’s unclear who the mystery man is or what his connection to John could be. But, we do know that John’s secrets are set to be revealed to viewers… so we’re guessing he knows something about why the poor guy is in hospital.
But, have we actually met the mystery man before? Is he a Tate?

John’s hospital visit in Emmerdale
John’s a mysterious guy and he’s always kept his cards very close to his chest ever since we first met him.
He’s got an army past and the death of his army mate Aidan Moore really shook him up.
And, John didn’t really break out into a sweat when he helped Aaron dispose of Anthony’s dead body. It was almost as if he’d done something like it before… Concerning…
It almost seems like John’s seen – or done – some dark things in his past, and the villagers would be wise not to trust him. Sorry about that Aaron.
Last night, John visited someone in the hospital who looked to be in a coma. John seemed in a very stressed state about the situation too.
But, it’s unclear who the guy was or how he ended up in the hospital in the first place.

Jamie Tate ‘returned’ as recast in John Sugden hospital scenes?
Jamie Tate was last seen in 2021 played by Alexander Lincoln. He was mentioned at the end of last year when it was revealed that Joe had been in correspondence with Jamie right before Will’s death.
Joe had actually double-bluffed Will though after Will believed all the time he had been speaking to Jamie instead of Joe.
Now though, one fan theory suggests that the guy in the hospital bed was actually Jamie. He had a very similar look but was clearly not played by Alexander Lincoln. Going by this theory, Jamie would have to have returned as a recast. But, it is possible…
The theory reads: “That guy in the hospital bed is Jamie Tate.” The theorist sounded pretty certain that John was visiting Jamie. But, how would he know him? Is Jamie really in that hospital?
