The Repair Shop’s Will Kirk appeared touched as a widow became emotional whilst discussing her late husband.

Christine Jagger featured on the programme on Wednesday (March 4), taking in a cherished bench given to her by her husband Gordon, who passed away in 2009 following a cancer diagnosis.

She hoped that the damaged wooden seat could be refurbished and spruced up, sharing with the BBC show’s Will that she had owned it for over 25 years and that she and her husband used to enjoy their morning coffee together on it, reports Gloucestershire Live.

“Sometimes he wasn’t very good at Christmas presents, so this was one of his better presents,” she revealed, explaining that when he presented it to her, Gordon had attached a ribbon to the bench, which featured a large wheel.

Christine was particularly keen to have it repaired in time for their 50th wedding anniversary, telling the furniture restorer: “I just feel that he’s looking down on me and saying, you know, ‘It’s all right’.”

“We used to put the cups here and I used to sit at that side and he’d sit at this side,” she recalled. “He just used to make me laugh all the time. He passed away in 2009. He had cancer. But I take a lot of comfort from my sons and my family and my grandchildren.”

Will set about the task, sanding the bench, applying oil and mending the broken wood.

Christine later returned to the barn, confessing that she would shed “happy tears” upon seeing the completed restoration. “It’s just quite emotional for me but I’ll be just so grateful to have it back,” she expressed. “I can’t wait.”

As Will revealed the bench, he said to Christine: “This kind of present is a big reflection on the kind of person that Gordon was.”

“Yes,” she responded. “He always said things would last forever if you looked after them. So he would absolutely love that this has been brought back to life.”

Upon seeing the chair, Christine became tearful as she told Will: “It’s so lovely.”

He appeared touched as she said to him: “I feel like Gordon’s putting his arms around me and saying, ‘Will, you did good’.”

“I’m just overwhelmed because it just looks absolutely amazing,” she remarked, after the pair hugged.
