In February it was rumored Reid was stepping down from MSNBC, with the news was confirmed by Joy and the network’s new president Rebecca Kulter.
“Joy Reid is leaving the network and we thank her for her countless contributions over the years,” Rebecca wrote in a memo to staff. “Her work has been recognized with several esteemed honors, including most recently, the 2025 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding News Series”.
Joy took to social media to confirm her departure hours before the memo. She expressed gratitude to others and pride for her show.
She wrote: “I just want to say thank you to everyone who has reached out with kindness and encouragement, both personally and in these social media streets.

“So very proud of The Reidout @joy.msnbc.com team, who are truly family, and all of our supporters & friends. See you tomorrow night at 7, one more time.”
Before her social media post statement, Joy addressed her exit with Win With Black Women in a call stream on YouTube on Sunday, Feb 23. She shared that following Monday was going to be her last show and said she’s “been through every emotion” in the aftermath of the news such as anger, disappointment and gratitude.
“My show had value,” she stated before elaborated on the topics her show dive into. “Whether it was the Black Lives Matter issues … (or) talking about Gaza and the fact that we as the American people have … a right to object to little babies being bombed … I am not sorry that I stood up for those things.”
