Sheinelle Jones is opening up about some wisdom she received from her Today co-worker Al Roker.
Speaking with PEOPLE in an exclusive interview, Jones revealed that the veteran broadcaster, 70, isn’t afraid to share advice — including on how to best handle parenting mishaps.
“He’s a really good father. There are so many times Dylan [Dreyer] and I will come in and Craig [Melvin] and we’ll be like, ‘Oh my gosh, can I tell you what happened’ and this and that, and ‘My kid did this and my kid did that,’ ” Jones says.

“Al always says that you cover them with love. Always. Very rarely… I’ve never heard Al say, ‘Oh yeah, you should discipline him,’ ” she continues. “He’ll be like, ‘Oh, it goes by so quickly. You cover him with love.’ So it’s one of those things where I just feel so lucky to work with him.”
Jones is mom to son Kayin, 14, and twins Uche and Clara, 12, whom she shares with husband Uche Ojeh. Roker is dad to daughters Courtney, 37, and Leila, 25, as well as son Nick, 22. He is also grandad to Courtney’s daughter Sky.

Roker isn’t the only one giving Jones parenting advice! In March 2023, the Today host told PEOPLE that Maria Shriver gave her life-changing advice about being a working mom to her three kids.
“She came to me and she was like, ‘You are doing too much. I know you want to be all you can at work,’ ” Jones shared during a celebration of Jenna Bush Hager’s Today book club, Read with Jenna. ” ‘Something has to give, and it’s okay.’ “
Jones said the chat made her feel like Shriver “gave me permission” to rebalance her life.
