Emmerdale fans are about to say goodbye to another female character as Steph Miligan looks set to temporarily exit the show.

Steph actress Georgia Jay has announced the adorable news that she is expecting her first child. And she chose to make the announcement in a fun social media dance with some of her co-stars. Then she took to her own Instagram to share the news.

However, with the happy news, it means Georgia will be leaving on maternity leave soon, so Steph will have a temporary on-screen exit. But exactly how will she go? Let’s have a look at some theories.

1. Could Steph exit Emmerdale to visit Nicky

Steph’s brother, Nicky, left the village in July last year – mere months before Steph’s first appearance. Nicky left Emmerdale alongside his boyfriend, Suni.

While we never got a chance to see Steph and Nicky interact on screen, they are still family.

So perhaps Steph decides after everything that has happened with Anthony she needs a break. And if she wanted to stay with someone she trusts, then Nicky would be an option.

And the time together would give them a chance to bond and get to know each other, since they weren’t exactly close growing up.

2. Anthony is alive

A popular theory is that Anthony Fox is alive. And if he is, then Steph isn’t going to cope well.

By the time Steph found out that Anthony abused her mum and is her biological dad, he was already dead. And she never had to face him knowing the truth.

But we are yet to learn where John put the body – if he actually buried him. With John’s need to fix things, a long-standing theory is that he managed to save Anthony’s life.

If that’s true, and Steph learns Anthony is alive, she may flee the village before she has to look at him. Or if she does speak to him, perhaps it’s too much for her and she leaves anyway for a fresh start.

3. Breakdown

Ever since Steph found out, she hasn’t been okay. For a while she was trying to get plastic surgeons to agree to change her nose and eyebrows, but thankfully her parents managed to intervene in time.

But it wasn’t enough and Steph broke down about everything going on. And so Caleb and Ruby organised therapy for her, which she said was helping.

Perhaps Steph is still struggling in secret and has a full mental health crisis over everything.

4. Prison

If Anthony’s body is ever discovered there are a lot of people who risk heading to prison.

Steph could find herself as being complicit to the murder, and that would ultimately put her behind bars.

Or if the theory that Anthony is alive turns out to be true and Steph comes face-to-face with him – she may even strike the final blow herself.

Whatever the Steph exit storyline is remains unknown, and we will all just have to wait and see how it plays out.
