Chrissy Teigen recently opened up about her oldest son, Miles how his diabetes diagnosis shows that her family is capable of dealing with any curveball life throws their way!
In an April 15 PEOPLE interview, the Deal or No Deal Island Season 2 Banker — and all-around all-star mom — revealed the difficulty her entire family has endured regarding Miles and his diagnosis, which the family revealed in 2024. Although the chronic condition of the pancreas affects more than 300,000 kids in the United States, Miles has had an especially tough time dealing with his Type 1 diabetes.
During football camp in 2024, Miles suffered from a particularly intense shigella infection, which no parent would ever wish on their child.
“It really took Miles down harder than a lot of the other kids,” she admitted. “His pain was incredible, and he’s a pretty tough little boy. We were thrown into this world of chaos and having to learn so much all at once.”

Teigen and her husband, The Voice’s John Legend, took their 6-year-old to the hospital for endless tests until it was confirmed: Miles had Type 1 diabetes. The entrepreneur recalled him saying things like, “Why me?” and “How come not Luna?”
“He was really worried that it would affect if he could play sports,” Teigen continued. “Can I have candy still? Can I have ice cream? All those things that only a kid would worry about.”
How are Chrissy Teigen and John Legend handling their son’s chronic condition?
While some days are better than others, Teigen and Legend have found that their parenting skills are working overtime when guiding Miles through all of the “chaos” — especially when convincing him (who Teigen calls her “little warrior”) to take his daily insulin shots.
“You try everything: tokens, bribery, iPad time,” Teigen confessed. “You do everything you can to see what makes him comfortable,” she says, growing emotional. “The first three months were really, really tough for us as a family because your child is experiencing pain.”
As many families can relate, Teigen and her husband guiding Miles through this journey has its fair share of ups and downs.

“One day you’re like, ‘He did it!’ And you’re so excited it’s all looking up,” she said. “Then all of a sudden the next day is so difficult again. I’ve always said this about having kids in general, and it fits in with this too: When things are going so great, you can always count on it to turn. And when things are really rough, things are going to get better.”
Fans will be happy to know that the DONDI star has learned an important lesson about herself and her household from everything Miles has gone through:
“Our family’s really good about navigating those curveballs now.”
Her husband, thankfully, will be dealing with a more manageable curveball of his own soon when Team Legend reaches the Season 27 Playoffs on The Voice beginning Monday, April 21.
