Coronation Street and Emmerdale are set to join forces in an exciting crossover storyline that has been teased ahead of its January broadcast.
Appearing on This Morning, Emmerdale’s Emma Atkins, who portrays Charity Dingle, dropped hints about her character becoming romantically involved with Corrie’s Carla Connor.
The special crossover instalment will give audiences the opportunity to select one of four scenarios pairing a Coronation Street character with an Emmerdale character that they wish to see broadcast.
Discussing the “top secret” arrangements, Emma revealed to Sharon Marshall: “It’s safe to say it’s a pretty big deal who I’m going to be working with; it is none other than Alison King, aka Carla Connor.”

Playing coy, Emma hit back: “What’s your point, Sharon?”
“Is this going to be a crossover in more ways than one?” Sharon probed.
“There’s a smidge of flirt, but that’s all I can tell you. Let’s wait and see,” she teased.
Despite the possibility of a new romance, fans were left devastated at the idea of Carla and Lisa calling time on their relationship.

One said: “Oh noooo!! I hope if it is a break up, it’s only temporary. I love them together.”
Another commented: “I just want Carla to get her happy ending, she’s always going through so much. She breaks my heart.”
Cameras began rolling on the soap crossover episode at the end of September, though details are still being kept tightly under wraps.
ITV Executive Producer for Continuing Drama, Iain Macleod, said: “It’s beyond exciting that filming is underway on Corriedale.

“There is a massive buzz around both the Leeds and Manchester sites, and the images coming out of the shoot are utterly spectacular.
“And that’s before we’ve even got to all the brilliant transpennine interactions between characters from the different shows!
“As a soap fan myself, I think my head is going to explode when the episode airs next year. It will be mind-blowing, historical and unmissable.”
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1 and ITVX.
