Today Show co-host Sheinelle Jones has shared her first public message since her husband of 17 years d!ed.
On Friday, the NBC program shared the heartbreaking news that Uche Ojeh passed away aged 45 following a battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma. The sad announcement was made on air by Sheinelle’s colleagues Savannah Guthrie, Craig Melvin, Al Roker, Jenna Bush Hager and Dylan Dreyer, who paid tribute to Uche with a moving video.
The clip included pictures of Sheinelle and Uche throughout the years, with some key moments in their relationship highlighted. Savannah said Uche, who shared three children with Sheinelle, was an “incredible person” and the “perfect partner in life” for the TV host.
After the tribute aired on TV, Sheinelle – who has been absent from the morning show since December – shared the video on her Instagram account. Thanking all those who have been supporting her at this heartbreaking time, the mom-of-three, aged 47, wrote, “Thank you, for all of your love and support.”
Hundreds of viewers and many of Sheinelle’s colleagues commented the post, with Savannah writing, “Uche was an extraordinary person. Full of light and heart and faith. Sheinelle, my dearest, we love you and the kids with all of our hearts. I marvel at your strength. You are surrounded by love now and forever.”
“Sheinelle sending you love and prayers,” said host Sherri Shepherd, while NBC meteorologist Dylan Dreyer wrote, “Hoping you can find peace in the love and prayers that surround you and your incredible children. I’m so lucky to have known Uche and his spirit lives on in your family. Love you Sheinelle.”
Colleague Jenna added, “Love you Sheinelle… we wrap our arms around you now and forever.” Hoda Kotb, who left the Today Show earlier this year, also shared a message of support for Sheinelle on social media, tagging her friend and saying, “Sending all my love.”
When announcing Uche’s death yesterday, Savannah said on air, “With profound sadness, we share this morning that Uche Ojeh, the husband of our friend and Today co-host Sheinelle Jones, has passed away after a courageous battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma. There are no words for the pain that we feel for Sheinelle and their three young children.

“Uche was an incredible person. We all loved him. … We just want to say Sheinelle, Kayin, Uche and Clara and the Ojeh family: we are with you, we love you. You are our family and we’re just sending all of our love to you right now.”
Craig then described Uche as a devoted father who “loved those kids more than anything else in this world, and was just so proud.” He added, “He was that dad that was on the sideline of every soccer game. He was at all of the concerts and the recitals. He was that guy.”
Glioblastoma is a type of cancer that starts as a growth of cells in the brain or spinal cord, explains the Mayo Clinic. It grows quickly and can invade and destroy healthy tissue. There is no cure for this type of cancer, but treatments might slow its growth and reduce symptoms – including headaches that keep getting worse, nausea and vomiting, blurred or double vision, trouble speaking, altered sense of touch and seizures.
