Good Morning Britain’s Charlotte Hawkins got her own back after Ed Balls mocked her news bulletin about mystic meerkats predicting England would beat the Netherlands in the Euro 2024 semi-finals
Charlotte Hawkins hit back at Ed Balls live on Good Morning Britain after he mocked her news bulletin.
The 49-year-old journalist showed a clip of meerkats predicting England’s victory over the Netherlands during Wednesday’s (July 10) episode of the ITV breakfast show.
She highlighted meerkats in an East Sussex zoo had the choice between two buckets of nuts, one of them featuring the England flag and the other of the Netherlands. The animals flocked to the one representing England. However, it seemed as though hosts Susanna Reid and Ed weren’t blown away by the unusual prediction.
Susanna said at the time: “Mystic animals should not be in news bulletins Charlotte Hawkins” as both of them laughed at her comments ,while Ed commented: “Clutching at straws.”

Doing an exaggerated gasp, Charlotte hit back: “Ooh harsh!” As Susanna cut in saying if the meerkats were correct then we should take it and support the team. She added: “I don’t mean to rain on the meerkat’s parade.”
However, it appears at the mystic meerkats got it right as England beat Netherland 2-1 in the clash and will now play in the final against Spain this Sunday (July 14).

Ed Balls isn’t convinced on the mystic meerkats
During Thursday’s (July 11) episode, Charlotte couldn’t help but bring up that the meerkats got it right but Ed still didn’t seem convinced. Charlotte even told Ed: “Take that look off your face, the meerkats called it right” and the former politician joked: “I’m hoping they don’t work Sundays. What happens if they get the other way? We don’t want to know. Retire the meerkats.”

Earlier in the episode, Ed appeared to also make a dig at Andi Peters’ appearance as he hosted the latest competition segment live from the Love Island villa.
Wondering what Andi would be wearing as she enjoyed the sunshine, Ed teased: “Let’s hope he’s got a better dress sense than yesterday.” Andi, who was wearing a red vest, jokingly took offensive to Ed’s comment before excitedly talking about being live in the famous villa, which is currently home to the remaining contestants of the ITV2 dating show.
It comes after Andi, 53, donned an eye-catching co-ord shirt and shorts matching set the previous day as he shared how viewers can win an eye-watering amount of cash.
