GOGGLEBOX BIG SHAKE-UP: Gogglebox favourites AXED from show as Surprise Replacements ANNOUNCED
Gogglebox enthusiasts will encounter five fresh families when the latest series commences. The beloved Channel 4 programme has undergone a significant shake-up following the departure of one duo. Scottish pair Roisin Kelly and Joe Kyle revealed they would be exiting the programme after bosses opted not to extend an invitation for the 26th series.
Nevertheless, two fresh Scottish partnerships – mates Jake, 27, and Calum, 31, from Glasgow plus siblings Rosie, 68, and Susie, 70, from Edinburgh – will now offer their commentary on the newest television programmes.
Additional newcomers feature 87 year old Sara from Yorkshire, who will become the programme’s eldest participant, watching alongside her daughter-in-law Lara, 58, reports Birmingham Live. The Gordons from Surrey, featuring parents Andre, 49, and Sarah, 47, together with their daughter Chee, 25, will round off the fresh roster, accompanied by wed couple Andrew, 62, and Alfie, 32, from the Cotswolds.
The Mirror reports that a programme insider revealed the alterations sought to “inject a bit of freshness” into the enduring series.
Mike Cotton, creative director for production company Studio Lambert, described it as “a delight” to welcome the new households into the Gogglebox family.
He continued: “Along with our much-loved returning cast, we can’t wait to join them in their living rooms and hear their candid thoughts on this weeks most talked about TV.”
Gogglebox favourites returning for the fresh series feature pals Jenny and Lee, the Siddiqui family, the Malone family, married couple Giles and Mary and sisters Ellie and Izzi.
In July, Joe and Roisin turned to social media to inform supporters that they wouldn’t be making a comeback. They penned: “After three and a half years of sitting on the sofa Channel 4 have decided it’s time for Joe and I to stretch our legs and have not asked us back for season 26. Therefore, we are leaving the Gogglebox family.
“The experience has actually been so mad and we will miss watching TV with you all on Friday nights!
“”It’s been an honour to represent Scotland as some of the first Scottish people on the show and prove we don’t actually need subtitles. “A Channel 4 representative extended best wishes to the duo for their future endeavours, stating: “We thank Joe and Roisin for their contributions to Gogglebox over the years.”
The fresh series of Gogglebox launches tonight (Friday, September 5) on Channel 4 at 9pm.
