The 67th Grammy Awards ceremony and telecast will continue as scheduled in February as the Southern California wildfires rage on.
On Monday, the Recording Academy and MusiCares CEO Harvey Mason Jr. and Tammy Hurt, chair of the board of trustees, released a statement confirming the show will continue but will turn its attention to the devastation affecting Los Angeles.
“This city is our home, and we mourn the loss of life and destruction that have come to it in recent days,” the statement read obtained by Billboard.
“In close coordination with local authorities to ensure public safety and responsible use of area resources, the 67th Grammy Awards telecast on CBS on Feb. 2 will proceed as planned. This year’s show, however, will carry a renewed sense of purpose: raising additional funds to support wildfire relief efforts and honoring the bravery and dedication of first responders who risk their lives to protect ours,” the statement continued.
This comes a week after the Recording Academy and MusiCares launched the Los Angeles Fire Relief Effort to help those across the music industry impacted by the disaster.
While the ceremony will continue, pre-Grammy events thrown by Universal and Warner Music Groups have been canceled.
Universal Music Group, whose clients include Kendrick Lamar and Taylor Swift, will help those affected by the wildfires instead.
“Today we have canceled all of our Grammy-related events, including the Artist Showcase and After-Grammy Party, and will redirect the resources that would have been used for those events to assist those affected by the wildfires,” the label said in a statement on Instagram. “Our deepest gratitude goes to the first responders and emergency personnel, who continue to perform heroically.”
“L.A. is home to so many of us,” the label’s statement continued. “We are committed to helping and supporting the music community, our artists, our teams and the people of Los Angeles get through this horrific episode.”
Warner Music told Billboard they had canceled their Grammy week party and used the funds for wildfire relief.
The 2025 Grammys will take place on Feb. 2 at Crypto.Com Arena in downtown Los Angeles.
