BBC star Adrian Chiles has opened up about his skin cancer diagnosis and needing an operation on his shoulder to treat it. The 58-year-old was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma when he received the results of a biopsy.
However, he has assured fans in his Guardian column that the cancer “won’t spread”. He also shared: “So not nothing, but not serious. Needs keeping an eye on.” The cancer Adrian has is caused by an overproduction of squamous cells in the top layer of the skin. The television star explained he booked an appointment with a dermatologist after noticing a change in his shoulder.

Medical professionals felt it was best to remove the patch to check if it was cancerous. Adrian admitted he was riddled with concern while awaiting the results from the NHS.
A total of 23 days after the patch of skin was removed, Adrian received two notifications from the NHS – but neither mentioned the results.
He claimed he struggled to get in contact with anyone who could assist him during the painstaking wait after ringing automated phone numbers.
The star wrote: “This, more than anything, is what matters to me. I don’t care about the shabbiness of hospitals, confusion over appointment times and places, or even the poor communication skills of some doctors. I just want to know there’s a number to call, which will get me someone relevant to talk to.”
Adrian, who used to host The One Show, was later told he would not get his results until December 18 in an app ‘powered by Patients Know Best’.
He penned in the newspaper: ‘By now I wanted to flush my phone down the toilet. This crap masquerades as communication, but communication is either two-way or it’s nothing.”
The star asked for an NHS professional to call him back, and a nurse finally shared the results with him.
“The human contact feels as good as any treatment or cure,” the relieved star said
