During the moment, Gifford also shared a tearful health update with those in attendance. Opening up, she shared, “I’ll probably go sooner,” addressing her own mortality.
Gifford honored her friend, who had been diagnosed with breast cancer two years prior. Discussing their bond, Gifford shared, “Over the years, our friendship has deepened us. “Many do, if you are blessed.”
“And honestly, I think about Jill and I smile even when she was going through her journey and she still is. We would get on the phone together and we pray and we’d laugh. I thank her for what she was doing for others.”
Gifford also told those in attendance to “be there” for the people in their lives. As she put it, their journey “might change the next day.” She continued, “So, when I say that Jill will be my friend for life, I mean it.”
Gifford added, “She will be there for me and I will be there for her. I’ll probably go a lot sooner.” She then concluded things by saying, “In fact, tick-tock, I better get off the stage,” a line which left many fans shocked.
As The U.S. Sun reported, Gifford was hospitalized last summer following a fall. At the time, she was recovering from hip replacement surgery.

Last year, she fractured her pelvis in two places. This caused her to be hospitalized for over a week and require physical therapy. At the time, she held herself accountable by overexerting herself, having moved around “moved 300 books” by herself during a signing in Nashville.
Speaking with People, back in July, Gifford shared, “It didn’t take much, because I was weak in that spot,” noting that she fell while trying to answer the door for a friend.
As Gifford continued, “The next thing you know, I am back in the hospital with a fractured pelvis, the front and the back. That’s more painful than anything I went through with the hip. The pelvis is unbelievably painful. But anyway, here I am.”
“You think you know your body and the next thing you know, your body changes when you get older. And as much as I don’t wanna think about it, I am.”
