Presenting BBC Breakfast on Sunday (November 2) alongside Rachel Burden, Ben described it as “a terrifying situation for those caught up in it all”.

The programme featured a breaking news segment from correspondent Barry Caffrey, who was reporting live from Huntingdon, reports Bristol Live.

He explained: “This all happened at around about twenty to eight yesterday evening when police were called here to Huntingdon. The train which was travelling from Doncaster, left Doncaster at 25 past six in the evening, wasn’t actually meant to stop here.

“It stopped at Peterborough and we understand after the train pulled out of Peterborough the alarm was raised by passengers on the train saying that there had been stabbings.

“And then it was at about 20 to eight that police officers arrived here to Huntingdon and we know that 10 people were taken to hospital and two people were arrested.

“Police have described this as a major incident.”

The programme also featured an interview with eyewitness Olly Foster, who recalled: “At first, there’s a few of us kind of looking at each other like thinking it was a joke, like it’s Halloween pranking. But then you just kind of see their faces and being serious.”

A fellow passenger said: “It was clear that something was going on. We didn’t quite know what. And then a minute or so later, a man comes running down with a very clear wound, bleeding quite badly on his arm.

“And there was a girl next to me who was near where the first stabbings happened. And she said that the man on the floor stepped in front of her and then got stabbed in the neck.”

Presenter Barry Caffrey continued: “Ten people were taken to hospital with stab wounds, nine with what were described as life-threatening injuries.

“British Transport Police declared a major incident and confirmed counter-terrorism officers are supporting the investigation.”
