Al Roker is always the sunshine of the Today Show and radiates happiness no matter what he is doing. Even when he was struggling with his own health, he did his best to maintain a positive attitude. Luckily, he has had his wife, Deborah Roberts, by his side. She shares the same work ethic and they are in the same profession so that helps. Both are public figures and very dedicated to their jobs, beloved, as well. However, family always comes first as does their marriage. Sadly, Al is sharing a heartbreaking family death that he just suffered.

According to Parade, Al shared that his beloved pup, Pepper, had passed away. He broke the heartbreaking news on Tuesday, June 11th via his Instagram. Per Al, she passed away on Monday, June 10th. Fans who have followed Al and Deborah know that Pepper, who was just twelve years young, had recently been in the hospital. They were so grateful when she got a clean bill of health and could come home. Sadly, it was short-lived:

“12 years ago, this sweet little girl named Pepper changed our lives. Yesterday, we had to say goodbye. While our hearts are heavy, they are also fuller because of all the love she bestowed on everyone who got to meet her.”

Along with his kind words, Al Roker shared a beautiful slideshow filled with memories of Pepper.

She was both his and Deborah’s constant companion and always wanted to be on top of one of them. Additionally, Pepper loved her walks, no matter the weather, and was clearly a very loved rescue pooch who changed their lives forever. This is not something that they will easily get over but Al knows how lucky he was to have had time with Pepper.
