The professional dancer issued a major update amid her recovery after undergoing a second mastectomy.

In November, Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden revealed she would be stepping away from the BBC competition series to undergo a second mastectomy. This was a devastating health update for the professional dancer who was diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2023, before receiving the all-clear the following February. Following her surgery, the Welsh star informed her followers: “Hubby & Family have been looking after me and the besties have turned up with the goods and nothing is stopping us from watching the traitors…keeping the tradition going.”
In a fresh update, Amy took to Instagram with a new mirror selfie to mark being two weeks post-op. In the pic, the dancer simply sported a white sports bra and checkered pyjama bottoms, with her drainage tube in full view. Taking to the caption, she shared: “This picture I took the day I came out of the hospital, post-surgery! Tomorrow marks two weeks since my surgery, and I’m feeling proud with how far I’ve come.

“Focusing on the little things, I’m seeing gradual improvements in my movement and being able to do more each day.” Amy continued: “I have been taking it slow, listening to my body, being kind with myself, and celebrating the small wins. But this week I’ve really seen a difference and am feeling so like me again. Please remember to check yourself.”
This update came as Amy also took to her Instagram story to share more insight into her health and wellbeing with fans, as she said: “I’ve had lovely messages asking how I’m doing. I am doing so much better, thank you. Since the weekend, I’ve really started to feel more like me.”
She went on: “I’ve definitely got my energy back after surgery and the anaesthesia. My movement is coming back, it’s not so tender, it’s obviously sore, a bit swollen, but the bruising has gone down. I’ve definitely got a bit more movement back now and I’m really looking forward to being able to progress now with physio moving forward.
“It’s been lovely, I’ve had my twin sister come to stay with me, and I’ve been able to get out and about, obviously only doing what’s been advised.”

Amy added: “And remember, every patient, every individual is so different, and only do what your doctor recommends. But definitely being able to get out and about has definitely helped as well.”
Under her post, the star was inundated with support from her followers, including celebrity pals, such as BBC Radio presenter Zoe Ball, who shared: “Heal well, brave one.”
Her fellow Strictly stars Karen Hauer and Dianne Buswell shared an array of love heart emojis. Meanwhile, Coronation Street star Samia Longchambon added: “Sending lots of love, Amy.”
