A HIT comedy series teaming with celebrity cameos has been axed after just two series.
Comedy series ‘Bookie’ had two hit seasons and was the brainchild of ‘sitcom king’ Chuck Lorre, who also created Two and a Half Men.

Other work by Lorre includes The Big Bang Theory, Dharma and Greg and Mom.
Bookie starred Sebastian Maniscalco as a veteran bookmaker in Los Angeles who must fight to survive the legalization of sports gambling while navigating unstable clients.
The series ran for two seasons, but Variety has confirmed there will be no third but hasn’t offered a reason why it won’t continue.
The show was created by Lorre alongside Nick Bakay and initially premiered in November 2023 on Max, with the second season airing in December last year.
Despite fan reviews praising the series and a host of celebrity guest stars, the broadcaster revealed they would not be bringing the series back.
A Max spokesperson said in a statement: “For two seasons creators Chuck Lorre and Nick Bakay and their hilarious cast, led by Sebastian Maniscalco, made us laugh while pulling back the curtain on the world of sports betting.
“We won’t be moving forward with a third season, but we are grateful to have worked with such a brilliant team on this laugh out loud comedy.”
Previous celebrity cameos across the two seasons included Ray Romano, Laraine Newman, Zach Braff and Charlie Sheen.
The main cast featured Omar Dorsey as Rayfield “Ray” Ballard, Andrea Anders as Sandra, Vanessa Ferlito as Lorraine Colavito, Jorge Garcia as Hector, Maxim Swinton as Anthony, Rob Corddry as Walt Dinty and Selina Kaye as Janelle.

Comic Sebastian Maniscalco took on the main role of Danny Colavito, and has previously spoken about how much he enjoyed working with Lorre and Bakay.
He said in an interview: “It validates what I’m doing is funny. Because as a comedian, I like the laughter.
“I like to hear what I’m doing is funny through the laughs. I’m getting used to playing off other actors. I’m learning a lot each day.”
