As Hoda Kotb heads into her final week on TODAY, she’s sharing some advice she’s taken to heart about making a big life change.

She spoke to mental wellness advocate and motivational speaker Yasmine Cheyenne on TODAY on Jan. 2 about Cheyenne’s guidance for people looking to start again as they tackle the new year.

“I think it’s scary to restart,” Hoda said. “Somebody gave me some good advice once. They said when you are taking a leap or a jump, you have to imagine yourself on the other side.

“You have to know what you’d feel like in that new relationship, what his hand would feel like in yours,” she continued. “Or how you would feel in a new job. It’s almost like imagining what your new life would feel like when you repot or start over again.”

Hoda has been contemplating her new direction after announcing in September that she is leaving TODAY while remaining in the NBC family. Her final day is Jan. 10.

She also spoke with Jenna Bush Hager about her intentions for the coming year in a pretaped conversation on TODAY’s fourth hour on New Year’s Day.

“I’ve noticed about myself that I’m more about doing things in community with people … I just decided that I like community better. I go to workout classes — even if I’m not having big conversations, I’m around people who are feeling the same vibe,” she said.

Cheyenne, the author of “The Sugar Jar: Create Boundaries, Embrace Self-Healing, and Enjoy the Sweet Things in Life,” shared some tips for those like Hoda who are looking to make some changes.

Cheyenne suggested keeping things concise in 2025, like writing down just three goals, whether for your career or personal life.

She also recommended choosing one word instead of the typical “resolution” for people to characterize their approach to the new year. For Cheyenne, it was “abundance,” while Hoda had a suggestion of her own.

“A friend of mine said her word was ‘enough,'” Hoda said. “I have enough, I am enough, this is enough. That feels good, too.”
