Sarah Michelle Gellar 'still doesn't get taken seriously' by men on set and had 'burnout' in Buffy | Daily Mail Online

After two decades of hit show Buffy the Vampire Slayer ending, fans were stunned this week when it was announced that follow-up series is in the works.

The beloved supernatural drama, which starred Sarah Michelle Gellar as lead character Buffy Summer, may be set for a revival, with a pilot nearing order from Hulu.

Fans are excited as it’s been reported Sarah, will reprise her role in the new series. Oscar winner Chloé Zhao, who is a self-professed life-long Buffy fan, is also set to direct the pilot, which has been written by Nora and Lilla Zuckerman.

However, despite many people excited, some are sceptical about the new series. Taking to the r/buffy Reddit channel, one person wrote: “That makes me kind of nervous,” while someone else replied: “Same. I don’t think it’s gonna be good.”

A third also chimed in: “I’m so intrigued and also so scared. Shows today are very different than they were at the time. Will they be doing 10 episode seasons? Will it be more continuous like shows are now or will they have some one-off monster-of-the week episodes?”

They continued: “Who can come back? I always assumed a Buffy reboot would bring on a new slayer. But there’s no longer just one slayer, too. Will this center around Buffy or a new group of slayers?

“Who can come back? The humans, sure – but the vamps can’t…unless they use that MCU technology to make David & James younger. I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS.”

However, despite many reservations, a lot of Buffy fans were excited to see what the new series has inshore.

One person said: “I’ll try it out. A new version doesn’t change the old one. If I don’t like it, I just won’t keep watching.” While another added: “If Sarah Michelle Gellar is in it playing Buffy, I’m watching it.”

A third chimed in: “The idea of an older Buffy has inherent appeal to me which is why I’m on board. I think Sarah Michelle Gellar can take the character into some interesting places now that she’s not in a coming of age story. If this was remaking Buffy whole cloth I’d be less thrilled. But Sarah Michelle Gellar has such a firm grasp on this character and its potential that I find myself being excited by her return.”

The show has been described as “the next chapter in the Buffyverse” and is executive produced by Gellar, Zhao, Nora and Lilla Zuckerman as well as the original series’ executive producers Gail Berman of the Jackal Group and Fran Kuzui & Kaz Kuzui via Suite B. Also said to be executive producing the pilot is Dolly Parton whose company Sandollar was producer on the original.

If the pilot goes ahead, it will be the third in the franchise. Buffy the Vampire Slayer, aired on he WB for five seasons from 1997-2001 before moving to UPN for two more, and spin-off Angel, ran on the WB for five seasons between 1999-2004.
