Celebrity Gogglebox viewers were left emotional on Friday night as David Tennant and a host of famous faces were seen in tears during a heartbreaking segment aired as part of Channel 4’s Stand Up To Cancer special. The episode featured a star-studded line-up reacting to some of the most powerful television moments, but one story in particular reduced the sofa to silence. Among those taking part were Josh Hartnett and Tamsin Egerton, Kieran Culkin and his wife Jazz, alongside David and Georgia Tennant.

Also appearing were The Celebrity Traitors stars Nick Mohammed and Joe Marler. The mood shifted dramatically as the celebrities watched the tragic story of a young doctor, Becca, who died from cancer aged just 30. Cameras showed several of the regular cast members visibly overwhelmed, wiping away tears as the emotional account unfolded on screen. Celebrity Gogglebox aired as part of Channel 4’s annual Stand Up To Cancer campaign, which brings together stars and viewers to support groundbreaking research and life-saving treatment.

The raw reactions struck a chord with viewers at home, with many praising the programme for shining a light on the human cost of cancer while raising funds for the charity’s vital work.

“Too messed up for this, bawling my eyes out,” gushed one fan. Another penned: “Life is so unfair sometimes…that was tough to watch”

A third added: “Oh to be married to David Tennant…” followed by crying emojis.

The Traitors stars Joe Marler and Nick Mohammed also proved a huge hit with viewers during the special. Joe joked about their on-screen reunion, saying: “When they told me I’d be doing Celebrity Gogglebox with Nick for Stand Up To Cancer, I felt it would be a great opportunity to finally stare him in the eye and ask why he gleefully betrayed me on national television.

“But honestly, I wouldn’t want to do it with anyone else. We had a mad old time on The Traitors, and somehow came out of it as actual mates… though I’ll be keeping one eye on him at all times, just in case…”

Ted Lasso star Nick shared: “Supporting SU2C means a huge amount to both of us – cancer affects so many people, and if us nattering through the week’s telly can help raise money for research, then fantastic.

“And Gogglebox is the purest of joys: friends, food, comfy sofa, and not a chalkboard or Claudia in sight.”

Hollywood actor Josh Hartnett also spoke about taking part alongside wife Tamsin Egerton. He said: “Tamsin introduced me to Gogglebox many years ago and I’ve been a fan ever since.

“Having the chance to sit with her, share a few laughs and inevitably say something that embarrasses us both, all while helping raise awareness for the worthiest of charities, is the perfect way to kick off the holiday season.”

Tamsin added: “We first started watching Gogglebox during lockdown in 2020, I found it so comforting watching other families around the country watching TV ‘with’ us.

“It’s such a great cross-section of the UK… I can’t wait to snuggle up on the sofa with him for such an important cause as Stand Up To Cancer.”
