White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has returned to her demanding role just days after giving birth, sparking conversations nationwide about the realities of working motherhood — especially in high-pressure political environments. In recent interviews and public remarks, Leavitt has opened up candidly about the emotional and physical challenges she faces as she balances the responsibilities of raising a newborn while serving as the administration’s primary voice to the American public.
Acknowledging the intense pace of her job, Leavitt admitted that the transition has not been easy. Sleepless nights, postpartum recovery, and the emotional weight of leaving her newborn each day are all part of her current reality. Yet, she says, the support of her family and her dedication to public service have kept her grounded. “It’s not about being perfect,” she explained. “It’s about showing up, even when it’s hard.”
Leavitt’s story has resonated with many working mothers who see in her a reflection of their own struggles — the daily juggling act between career and caregiving. Her experience has reignited discussions about parental leave, workplace flexibility, and the expectations placed on women in leadership roles. Through it all, she remains committed to both her family and her mission at the White House.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has spoken about juggling her job and motherhood.
The 27-year-old first-time mother is the youngest Press Secretary to ever hold the position. She and her husband, 59-year-old real estate mogul Nicholas Riccio, welcomed their son in July 2024.
The young mom cut her maternity leave short, returning to work just three days after giving birth after watching President Truwp’s assassination attempt live on TV. Since then, she has hit the ground running as the official mouthpiece for the White House, claiming that “Being a mom helps me to be better at my job.”

The young Republican recently shared a picture of her baby in his highchair on Instagram with the caption: “Work at white house, baby bedtime routine, & then @seanhannity at 9pm,” highlighting the balancing act that comes with being a working mother.

In December, she responded on Instagram to a follower who asked ‘Do you worry about the demands of the job and missing out on moments with your son?’
She replied, “I literally pray about this everyday. It’s very difficult but it’s also all I know. I went back to work just days after giving birth. I have learned to multi-task and prioritize my time.”
“It gives me a great perspective on life and allows me to remember that not every bad day is the end of the world because my greater purpose is being a mom.”
On forgoing maternity leave, she once explained: “I had just brought my newborn, my three-day-old baby home from the hospital,” as Truwp was shot at on live television. “I looked at my husband and said, ‘Looks like I’m going back to work,'” she said.
“I felt compelled to be present in this historic moment. The president literally put his life on the line to win this election. The least I could do is get back to work quickly.”
Karoline isn’t the first mom to take on the role of Press Secretary. She served as assistant Press Secretary to Kayleigh McEnany, who took on the position as a mother of a 5-month old. Sarah Huckabee Sanders had three kids under the age of 5 when she worked as Press Secretary.
