IS SHE OK? Grimes takes aim at Elon Musk’s X as she ISSUES Scathing Social Media Statement
Grimes has broken her silence this week to criticize X – the platform previously called Twitter and currently owned by her former partner, Elon Musk.
In a blistering post, she branded social media “a poison” and “a prison.”
After returning to X following a break from the platform, the 37-year-old artist wrote: “Ok I’ve basically been entirely off social media and returning here it is overwhelmingly, abundantly and profoundly clear that this place – and all of these places – are a poison – a prison of utterly short form deep deep-sounding nonsense attached to no one that ur brain will discard imaging its learning,” She continued: “The entire thing is a theatre. A shitty pale simulacra of a life.”

The Oblivion performer was romantically involved with Musk from 2018 to 2023 and has three children with him.
Grimes pulled no punches when voicing her damning assessment of social media’s effect on users, laying out her concerns with the platforms in an unfiltered declaration, reports the Irish Star.
“I think it’s very unhealthy to be on social media, it feels like a ghost town of depression, bitterness and pictures of beautiful women doing sext things,” she stated. “I feel like this is a massive moral failure of all the apps. And it’s causing great harm to society.”
A month prior, the musician – born Claire Elise Boucher – disclosed she had received diagnoses of ADHD and autism, sharing her gratitude that she had “overcome” numerous early childhood obstacles before social media became prevalent.
The music sensation expressed concerns about the online mental health discourse, stating: “I think the nature of this uninformed social media mental health subculture is rly a big concern,” and added, “Some are great ofc but a lot of these seem like explicitly anti civilizational and geared towards making people worse.”
Grimes candidly reflected on her time with Elon Musk in an August 2023 interview, acknowledging the significant impact he had on her growth. “I learned from him, like, the best internship ever,” she shared with Wired.

She continued to express admiration for Musk’s work and leadership, saying, “People don’t like talking about Elon, but it was incredible to be right there watching all that SpaceX stuff happen. That’s a master class in leadership and engineering and makes you understand how rare it is to have a leader of that quality.”
Grimes also credited Musk for challenging her, which led to personal development: “He’s challenged me a lot,” she remarked. “I learned a lot about running my own team and my own life. I’m now way tougher and smarter than I used to be.”
Previously, she has referred to Musk as her boyfriend, noting their relationship’s fluidity. Despite their rollercoaster history, by March 2022, she affectionately called him both her “best friend” and “the love of my life.”
