Kansas City Chiefs star wide receiver Xavier Worthy will not be charged after being arrested for a family violence incident on Friday night.
According to a report from Tyler J. Davis and Claire Osborn of the Austin American-Statesman, Williamson County District Attorney Shawn Dick declined to take the case after speaking to multiple witnesses.
Here’s what Dick’s office said on the matter, per Davis and Osborn:
“After further investigation by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office and further discussion with a third-party witness, Mr. Worthy and his attorneys, this case is being declined at this time pending completion of the investigation by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office. Mr. Worthy and his lawyers are fully cooperating with this investigation.”
On Saturday morning, news emerged that Xavier Worthy was arrested on Friday night for assaulting a family or household member in Williamson County, and the second-year wideout was taken into custody.

After the news of Worthy’s arrest came out, the Chiefs re-signed star wide receiver Marquise Brown to a one-year contract worth up to $11 million. Naturally, some speculated that it was done as an insurance option with the Chiefs potentially preparing for a suspension
Brown was one of several Chiefs’ offensive players slated to enter free agency, along with running back Kareem Hunt, wide receivers JuJu Smith-Schuster, DeAndre Hopkins and Mecole Hardman. Star guard Trey Smith was also a pending free agent, but the Chiefs placed the franchise tag on the two-time Super Bowl champion.

The Chiefs traded up via the Buffalo Bills to select Worthy with the No. 28 selection in last year’s draft, adding another playmaker to help Rashee Rice, Travis Kelce and Marquise Brown.
Worthy had an up-and-down rookie season, catching 59 passes for 638 yards and six touchdowns to go along with three rushing scores. But he came on strong in the postseason, finishing with 19 catches for 287 yards and three receiving TDs in three playoff games.
