Melania Trump was by her husband Donald Trump’s side as he was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States – but her outfit choice divided fans
Melania Trump’s inauguration outfit came with a hefty price tag that’s bound to raise eyebrows. Standing by her husband, Donald Trump, as he took the oath of office to become the 45th President of the United States, Melania, at 54, was the epitome of style in a bespoke navy coat by Adam Lippes, topped off with a chic boater hat by Eric Javits, which divided fans.
Both pieces were crafted by American designers especially for the event.
Eric Javits’ hats are notorious for their steep prices, and what really makes them stand out is the meticulous attention to detail and superior craftsmanship. A similar hat from Javits’ collection has been spotted on sale for upwards of £300 ($370).
Adam Lippes may not be a name you hear every day, but he’s certainly made his mark on the First Lady’s wardrobe, Vogue reports. He’s also the talent behind Princess Eugenie’s outfit for the Trooping the Colour in summer 2017.
Speaking to Vogue, the designer expressed his pride: “Mrs. Trump’s outfit was created by some of America’s finest craftsmen and I take great pride in showing such work to the world.”, reports the Mirror.
A look-alike double-breasted coat from Adam Lippes’ own line retails for more than £3,000 ($3,700), hinting that Melania’s custom piece could fetch an even higher value.

Accessorizing with black leather gloves and dark suede pumps, Melania matched her 78 year old husband perfectly. The Slovene-American former model, who also designs jewelry and watches, is Trump’s third wife.
Fans on social media were divided in their opinions about Melania Trump’s outfit, with some loving the look and others comparing it to Michael Jackson’s style. One user tweeted, “Melania looks so first Lady. Love it! ” while another said, “She looks stunning.”
However, not everyone was a fan, with some finding the outfit too business-like or reminiscent of the King of Pop.
This is not Melania’s first time in the spotlight, as she previously served as First Lady during her husband’s first term in office. At the time, she spoke about the challenges of choosing an outfit for the inauguration, saying, “It can be a daunting task, to choose an outfit that will be mesmerized and become part of our nation’s story and forever history.”

Despite rumors of a troubled marriage, Melania kept a relatively low profile during her first term as First Lady.
Now, as her husband prepares to take office again, it remains to be seen how she will approach her role this time around. On the day of the inauguration, Melania and her husband attended a traditional morning service at St. John’s Episcopal Church, followed by morning tea at the White House.
As the swearing-in ceremony took place, millions of people watched as Trump prepared to begin his second term in office. Former presidents Barack Obama, Bill Clinton and George Bush Jr are among the distinguished guests at the ceremony.
The event is being held indoors in the Capitol Rotunda Hall due to severe weather conditions. Trump’s former election rivals Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris are also present.
