Emmerdale fans are convinced that Robert Sugden will return to the show tonight, as it’s dramatically pulled from its early ITVX release.

Emmerdale announced that tonight’s episode (May 28) will not be released on ITVX early. Usually fans can watch the episode whenever they want from 7am on the air date. But today is different.

In order to avoid spoilers from leaking, Emmerdale is not uploading it early. As it is a huge week in the village, many fans have began speculating what may happen in this particular episode. And the main theory: A Robert Sugden return.

It’s a dramatic week in Emmerdale

This week, Aaron and John’s wedding has been playing out. And the grooms are yet to make it down the aisle. Each episode has began with John having a nightmare that someone is interrupting the ceremony.

Monday was PC Swirling and yesterday was Aidan Moore. So if the pattern continues then someone else should be interrupting tonight.

Away from John’s nightmares, he hasn’t been having a particularly good time. He may have failed to kill Aidan, but Aaron decided to call off the wedding as he believed John still loved Aidan.

And with rumours circulating that Ryan Hawley may make a brief reappearance in the soap, many fans believe Robert will return tonight. Even if it’s just one of John’s visions. And his surprise comeback is why Emmerdale are refusing to let the episode air early.

Could Robert return in Emmerdale tonight?

Taking to the comments of Emmerdale’s Facebook post, viewers speculated that Robert Sugden will return to our screens tonight.

One fan commented: “Please let this be Robert coming back to save Aaron!”

Another added: “I think it’s the return of Robert Sugden.”

“Oh I really think this is Robert coming back to save Aaron. I loved Robron. They were a fantastic love story,” a third penned.

A fourth wrote: “Oh so whatever happens is going to be BIG? I’m so excited. I hope Robert returns to stop Aaron from marrying him.”

Viewers last saw Robert when he was sent down for life with a minimum of 14 years in prison for murdering Victoria’s rapist, Lee. While Aaron was planning on waiting for him, Robert removed all contact from those he loved, forcing them to move on with their lives.

Fans have been begging for a Robert return in Emmerdale ever since Ryan Hawley left the soap in 2019. It may have been six years – but fans still love and miss him.

Whether or not Robert actually returns remains to be seen. But if he does, he will have a lot of questions…
