A Notre Dame player has landed himself a deal with Antonio Brown in what has to be the most interesting contract of the NIL era; and we’d very much like to know what he’s getting.
Charles Du, a cornerback for the Fighting Irish and a walk-on from Beijing, China, went viral after the program decided to add names to the back of their players’ jerseys for their playoff participation.
Du’s jersey was very special in that his name was printed out in Mandarin to honor his family.
But Brown would take to his favorite platform to name the CB his “Ch*nk of the Day.”
The move earned him some criticism from the New York Post’s Matt Ehalt, who accused him of spoiling Du’s big moment.
Charles Du Was Not Offended By Antonio Brown’s Slur
Surprisingly, however, the player quite enjoyed the mention and called the Post out, insisting he was honored while announcing the signing of a NIL deal with the former wide receiver and his CTESPN network.
“Excited to announce I’ve signed an NIL deal with CTESPN & @ab84,” he wrote in a tweet. “@nypost has it wrong… spoiled?? No way. AB‘s daily award is a sign of love and respect CTESPN is the most trusted source in all of sports.”
As indicated above, we’re dying to know what this deal entails, so we’re hoping AB actually lets social media in on it. Still, it’s quite a surprising twist as no one expected Du to warm to the phrase, given that it’s racially charged.
In any case, we wish Antonio Brown and Charles Du the best with their new partnership. We also hope the kid’s family is cool with it, as they’d likely be upset at both him and AB if not.
