American Music Awards audiences were left in the lurch after top-tier talents like Taylor Swift and Sabrina Carpenter were no-shows at this year’s event.

 

On May 26, the AMAs red carpet was a whirlwind of excitement as celebs made their grand entrances. Dancing with the Stars buffs rejoiced over Jenna Johnson and Ezra Sosa’s timely arrival, while country fans were enamored by Lainey Wilson’s eye-catching floral suit. Eager viewers perched on the edge of their seats for a glimpse of their beloved chart-toppers but faced a letdown as several big-name nominees failed to make an appearance once the show kicked off.

 

Absentees included notables such as Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Rodrigo, Gracie Abrams, Chappell Roan, and the frequently celebrated Taylor Swift—none of whom graced the red carpet.

 

Disgruntled fans didn’t hesitate to voice their displeasure online. “40 minutes in and this award show isn’t giving anything at all.. where are all the pop girlies! ? Where’s miss Swift and her iconic dance moves! ?” a fan expressed their frustration.

Another added fuel to the fire: “Taylor? ? Sabrina? ? Olivia? ? Gracie? ? Chappell? ? Where are my pop girlies I HAVE NOT BEEN CLOWNING FOR NO REASON.”

Sabrina, Chappell, and Taylor were each in the running for a whopping six nods apiece.

Some dedicated Swift fans speculated that the artist’s categories were deliberately held back until the end to hook viewers till the curtains closed.

One fan speculated: “I swear they’re intentionally putting categories with taylor swift later in the show because if she doesn’t appear to receive an award viewers are going to drop like a rock.”

 

Taylor’s fans were not just excited for her appearance, but also for an announcement that was rumored to accompany it. Some spectators believed she would announce the release of her highly anticipated Reputation (Taylor’s Version) album at the event.

One viewer quipped: “the chances of taylor announcing reputation tv are in hell.”

As it turned out, the singers who missed this year’s awards ceremony didn’t lose much as Billie Eilish dominated most of the categories they were nominated in.

 

In addition to being named Artist of the Year and Favorite Touring Artist, Billie’s album Hit Me Hard and Soft received significant acclaim, winning Album of the Year and Favorite Pop Album.

The only absentee to snag an award on Monday night was Gracie Abrams, who was crowned New Artist of the Year.
