Fans of Good Morning Britain were left fuming as the ITV show gave an update on illegal immigration in the UK. Charlotte Hawkins asked correspondent Nick Dixon about new measures that could come into play in an attempt to stop so many small boats crossing the channel.

It comes as there are warnings that any new deal to deter illegal immigration could actually prompt a surge in Channel crossings as people attempt the journey before new measures come into force. Nick, who was live in Northern France, explained: “I think you have to remember that people here have heard countless times of more measures coming in, more barriers in place and more police patrolling the beaches, and for them it doesn’t really make any difference whatsoever. They are absolutely determined.”

The reporter continued as he said that he had spent some time in a migrant camp in Dunkirk talking to people. He shared: “One young man from Iran said he had tried several times to get to the UK. He will be trying again.
“He just kind of laughed when I suggested that it might be harder for him in the very near future to get across. Even the prospect of them having rubber dingies slashed by the police just really doesn’t affect them at all.”
The ITV show then cut to a clip of Nick speaking to a migrant from Iran. He admitted that he has already tried four times and is keen to go for a fifth attempt. He then went on to say that he would not even be stopped by police shooting at him.
Fans at home were less than impressed with the news being delivered to them. Commenting on X (formerly Twitter) one viewer wrote: “Ridiculous post – have you seen the numbers so far this year? Isn’t that a surge.”

Another added: “More lies and propaganda,” while a third declared that they would no longer be watching: “#Gmb Yep definitely switching to GB News or Talk TV.”
Others complained about the issue itself, with one person writing: “There is only one thing that will have any real effect in deterring most of them. A blanket ban on anyone crossing in a small boat ever being given the right to stay. All the while there’s hope, they’ll chance it. This one-in, one-out deal is a joke. More smoke & mirrors.”
Someone else penned: “New measures my a*** how long have we been talking about this? Nothings going to change it’s all ‘pie in the sky’ from both sides and now Macron wants more money for police drones boats.”
