David Muir has sparked a buzz among viewers, but it’s not just for the intense news coverage he’s been delivering from Texas.
The 51-year-old ABC World News Tonight anchor left his usual studio setting to report on the harrowing events unfolding in the Texas Hill Country, where severe flash floods have resulted in numerous fatalities.
David has spent much of the past week in the Lone Star State, capturing the efforts of locals as they search for missing loved ones and the heartbreak at Camp Mystic. While the esteemed program continues to broadcast significant stories from the region, it appears that Muir’s appearance has also caught the attention of audiences.
Eschewing his typical on-air wardrobe, David showcased a more relaxed style, sporting a fitted black shirt that accentuated his toned build, paired with jeans. His normally polished hairstyle was styled in a laid-back manner.
A segment from the primetime news about the TSA’s decision to eliminate the “shoes off” policy was posted on the show’s Instagram, leading fans to comment on the anchor’s physical appearance.

“David, been working out huh!? Looking in shape brother,” one fan remarked, while another confessed, “I had to start this over a couple times…hello chest and biceps.”
A third user jokingly boasted, “Hi everyone, see how buffed I am?” while a fourth quipped, “Bro is getting jacked.”
A fifth commenter teased, “Remove your muscle shirt instead,” and another shared a meme that declared, “Suns out guns out, baby.”
Despite his reputation for dapper attire, David confessed in a People interview that appearances can be deceiving. He revealed, “I generally have jeans on from the waist down.

So the first thing that we try to do is make sure my jeans aren’t showing…I really don’t try to take myself too seriously but I always just joke, ‘Don’t tell anyone about the jeans and the boots!'”
In a touching farewell to his colleague Michelle Mayer on air, David referenced his on-screen wardrobe tricks. He expressed disbelief at her departure, saying, “I am still in denial about all this,” and honored her role as his stage manager, “I cannot believe that Shelly is leaving my partner in crime out there. She’s the one who’s cuing me every single night, standing next to the camera, but Shelly, only for you tonight, I hope you’ll notice that you’re going to see my cuffs.”
He continued by highlighting Michelle’s attention to detail, “The only reason anyone ever sees cuffs is because Shelley’s always saying, pull your cuff. My watch. I’ve got my watch on, because Shelly likes it when I show up with my watch on. Only happens, like once or twice a year.”
David didn’t stop at just the suit, as he also pointed out, “I got a full suit on today, only for you, Shelley, as you know, usually jeans in the waist down behind that desk. But for you, the full suit. And I don’t dig the jeans, and I got a haircut. I got a haircut for you.”
Wrapping up his tribute, David gushed, “This moment is yours; you deserve this. Shelley, go home to Kentucky, giving back with your family, the horses, and the beautiful countryside. And what 11 years this has been done by my side, I don’t know what I’m gonna do without you.”
The segment concluded with the camera shifting to Michelle, who, for the last time, was signaling David off air.
