Sky News was halted for some worrying breaking news live on air. British four-time Tour de France winning cyclist Chris Froome has been airlifted to hospital following a “serious training cr@sh”. Chris Froome was rushed by helicopter to a hospital in Toulon after a shocking acc!dent on the French Riviera left him with multiple injuries, including a collapsed lung and five broken ribs.

A statement from Froome’s official X account confirmed: “He did not suffer any head injuries but scans revealed he has a fracture in his lower back, a collapsed lung and five broken ribs.” The 40-year-old remains in a stable condition, but doctors have scheduled surgery for later today to treat the back injury. His team added that further updates will be provided once the operation has been completed. No other riders or vehicles were involved in the incident.

The cr@sh took place during a routine training ride on Wednesday (August 27) before emergency services airlifted him to hospital.

Chris has raced with Israel Premier-Tech since 2021. In a post online, the team asked fans to keep him in their thoughts: “Please join us in wishing @chrisfroome well and a speedy recovery.”

The British star’s glittering career includes four Tour de France wins in 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017 while riding for Team Sky. He also conquered the Vuelta a Espana twice and added a Giro d’Italia crown to his palmarès.

However, the past few years have been plagued by setbacks. In 2019, he was nearly killed when he slammed into a wall at high speed during training for the Criterium du Dauphine.

That horrific cr@sh left him with a fractured neck, femur, elbow, hip and ribs, keeping him in hospital for more than three weeks.

His determination to return stunned the cycling world, but the road back to his old dominance has been long and painful.

Earlier this year, in February, the four-time Tour de France winner broke his collarbone during the UAE Tour — another cruel blow for a rider once considered unbeatable in the mountains.

Adding to the uncertainty, the father-of-two recently admitted that 2025 may be his final season in competitive racing, hinting at retirement after years of battling both rivals and his own battered body.

Despite the struggles, Chris remains one of Britain’s greatest ever cyclists and a three-time Olympic bronze medallist.

Whie Chris has overcome injuries and setbacks throughout his career, this latest ordeal leaves his future once again hanging in the balance.

Fans online were quick to show support for thy cyclist icon, with one sharing on X: “Oh no, that’s a right shocker! Wishing Chris a speedy recovery—proper tough bloke he is. Let’s hope he’s back on that bike soon, giving everyone a run for their money again!”
