Savannah Guthrie has opened up about her devastating divorce more than a decade ago.

The 53-year-old Today show anchor was married to former BBC journalist Mark Orchard from 2005-2009.

And while appearing on Monica Lewinsky‘s podcast Reclaiming, she reflected, ‘It was horrible and sad and it broke my heart, and it took me years to recover.’

She added, ‘I’m not blaming anyone but I don’t really want to get into it.’

The subject came up as Guthrie discussed drawing boundaries while writing her latest book, Mostly What God Does: Reflections on Seeking and Finding His Love Everywhere.

She told Lewinsky that while penning the literary effort, she chose to withhold the ‘gory details’ of the split.

‘It’s the one thing I didn’t want to talk about,’ she explained, adding that she wanted her readers to understand that she has ‘experienced adversity’ but preferred not to elaborate on ‘the depths of that.’

The morning show host said she felt divulging her divorce details was ‘too personal’ and ‘too embarrassing.’

Asked if she got pushback from publishers, Guthrie said she ‘never did,’ to which Monica replied, ‘That’s great.’

And she affirmed, ‘You’re allowed to have a boundary.’

Teasing the July 1 episode to her Instagram followers on Tuesday, the former White House intern wrote, ‘This was a special episode with @savannahguthrie on my podcast, Reclaiming.

‘We chatted about finding strength from our broken moments. Watch now on YouTube or listen wherever you get your podcasts.’

Guthrie is now married to Michael Feldman, and the couple marked their 11th wedding anniversary in March.

They share two kids: daughter Vale, 10, and son Charley, eight.

Their 2014 wedding ceremony was held in Guthrie’s hometown of Tucson, Arizona.

Last year for their 10-year anniversary, Guthrie paid tribute to her spouse in an Instagram caption: ‘This was us – ten years ago today! And this is us now. I love you now and forever.’

In a 2020 interview with Drew and Jonathan Scott, Savannah gushed: ‘Mike is extremely handy, which is one of the things I liked about him when I first met him.

‘I thought, “Wow, here’s a sophisticated guy who grew up in the city but who can actually do things.”‘
