The Today Show’s Savannah Guthrie took to Instagram jokingly sharing Tom Hanks’ next career move following his SNL50 anniversary special backlash.
In a new Instagram post, the 53-year-old television personality shared a clip from her interview this week with the former Forrest Gump star as he promoted his latest project ‘The Americas.’ And as she plugged his new series, the host went on to joke that he has a new gig alongside her in the newsroom.
Along with the interview clip, Savannah captioned the post: “Hall of fame interviewee @tomhanks on his breathtaking new documentary “The Americas” on NBC… And his ironclad commitment to coanchor with me for a full week [laughing emoji] #nobacksies.”
And while Savannah was just having some fun, many took to the comments of her post unleashing their fury on the 68-year-old actor. Many of his right-wing fans are still fuming over his latest appearance on the Saturday Night Live 50th Anniversary special where he played the role of a racist MAGA supporter.

Under the Instagram post, one angry user commented: “Disappointed in him and his SNL skit. Poor taste.” Another added: “Huge fan of yours but no thank you to @tomhanks.” And a third chimed in: “I’m going to stop watching if he co-hosts!” While someone else said: “No I’m sorry be he dissed over half this country.” Yet another upset fan wrote: “Sure don’t want to hear his woke crap. I’m done with NBC. Will only miss Dylan.”
Others took her playful proposition more seriously as one fan commented: “Please let Tom Hanks be on the Today Show.” Another supporter agreed: “Would love to see him co-host.” And a third person sweetly added: “The sooner the better! Bring it.”
This comes as Tom is currently promoting his latest project ‘The Americas’ which will be streaming on Peacock. The actor is narrating the new nature series which showcases the natural beauty of South and North America.
