If you’re lucky enough to attend a taping of Late Night with Seth Meyers, you’ll get to see the SNL alum answer audience questions during breaks — and one recent query about “Day Drinking” caught the Host off guard.

In a clip of one such question-and-answer segment shared to Late Night‘s Instagram and TikTok on March 19, one taping attendee asks Seth Meyers, “When your kids are old enough, how are you gonna explain ‘Day Drinking’ to them?”

The audience member is, of course, referring to the popular recurring segment where Meyers spends an afternoon excessively imbibing alcohol with celebrities like Rihanna, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Kristen Stewart, and Dua Lipa.

Clearly surprised by the question, Meyers responded, “You know what the most embarrassing thing is? That has never occurred to me until this moment.”

Meyers, who shares two sons and a daughter with wife Alexi Ashe, cursed after realizing, “Like, the amount they’re gonna be like, ‘I learned it from you, dad!”

Seth Meyers says his kids’ personalities are a lesson in nature vs. nuture

“I think they’ll be so embarrassed. It’s very funny, my oldest [Ashe, 8] is, in general, embarrassed by me all the time,” Meyers shared. “He’s embarrassed by my middle [son, Axel, 6] too.”

“I’ll see my [oldest] son down the street, when I’m picking him up, and I’ll just start dancing, he’s like, ‘Stop it,'” he tells the audience. “Whereas as if I start dancing with my middle, we’ll literally dance down the street to each other,” he added, cutely reenacting it.

“It’s so funny, because we are raising them the same way. I have three kids — you realize a lot of it’s nurture, but f—, a LOT of it’s nature,” Meyers continued. “The way they’re different, I’m not writing it off on birth order or anything, their internal wiring is so different.

“I think Ashe will be so embarrassed,” he adds. “And Axel will be like, ‘Let’s do shots!'”

Meyers’ “Day Drinking” adventures first started a decade ago, in 2015, when he knocked back (more than) a few) with his brother Josh Meyers and their mom. Since then, he’s saddled up to the bar with celebrities like Kelly Clarkson, Lizzo, and Kevin Hart, just to name a few.

The segment even spawned a New Year’s Eve special, featuring a compilation of the most hilarious moments from the decade of “Day Drinking.” The Day Drinking with Seth Meyers New Year’s Eve Special aired December 31, 2024 on NBC, and is available to stream on Peacock.
