Heads up, this article contains spoilers from Severance season 2.
Viewers of the Apple TV+ series Severance have been left scratching their heads since the introduction of Miss Huang (portrayed by Sarah Bock) in the second season.
The confusion wasn’t limited to the audience, as even temporary MDR employee Mark W (Bob Balaban) was puzzled about why a child was present on the Severed Floor on Lumon. Fans have been busy theorizing, with many suggesting that Miss Huang could be the offspring of Mark (Adam Scott) and Gemma (Dichen Lachman).
Mark had previously confessed that he and his wife had attempted to conceive a child, but their efforts were unsuccessful before the Russian literature teacher tragically died in a car accident. However, the existence of a version of Gemma in Lumon, known as Ms Casey, hints that anything is possible – including the couple having a child, reports the Express.

Miss Huang has left fans with some dark theories
However, other fans have proposed an alternative hypothesis regarding Miss Huang’s parentage and the mysterious Waffle Parties. Some speculate that she might be the child of two Innies at Lumon.
The Waffle Party at Lumon involved employees engaging in intimate activities with presumably other severed employees as a company perk for meeting quotas. One person theorized about the Waffle Party dancers: “My guess is that they are part of the “permane innie” staff like Ms. Casey. Switched on and rolled out when needed, then back down to the testing floor. Are they being used to breed from as well? Possibly [sic].”
Another viewer responded: “Maybe that’s where Miss Huang came from. Maybe her mom is a waffle party dancer.”
A third concurred: “Miss Huang’s Mom is a Waffle Party Dancer.”

Fans want to know the purpose of Miss Huang
Given Severance did depict a character becoming pregnant while at Lumon, with their severed Innie handling the pregnancy and birth, questions linger about the fate of offspring conceived at Lumon by Innies.
Additionally, one Redditor separately wrote about Ms Huang: “I just feel that people saw two asian people and just assumed they must be related. Mark has only been severed for two years – why would he have a teenage daughter? [sic]”
Given Mark has been working for two years since his wife’s death, the timeline wouldn’t match up and would mean Miss Huang couldn’t really be their daughter unless her growth was sped up in some way. Dan Erickson, the creator of Severance, shared some insights about the introduction of a new character in season two.
He said: “The character of Miss Huang, you know we wanted to throw in a new character on the management side, who would really throw our Innie characters sort of off their game. We spoke of the fact that experientially, they are like children and that they haven’t been around very long and so in a way, Miss Huang – she’s coming in and she’s a child which is… you’re like why would Lumon do that?”
He further explained to IGN: “But in a way, she’s mentally older than they are, so it’s a strange dynamic where they’re never quite sure what to do with her or how to react to her.”
The opening credits for season two also show Mark waking up to babies on his bed and an infant Kier Eagan crawling on the floor and shaking snow off his head, hinting at Helena (Britt Lower) possibly being pregnant at the ORTBO. This has led fans to speculate about the emphasis on babies being severed and Lumon’s perspective on children.
The themes of children and fertility have been prevalent throughout Severance, but these could be amplified in the forthcoming episodes
