Amber and Nikita performed a tango for their first dance of two during the show, and scored an impressive 37 points out of 40 for the routine.

However, when it came to the judges comments, Anton and Shirley both had plenty of constructive feedback.

Shirley said it lacked some “passion” while Anton claimed there was a “disconnect” between Amber’s upper and lower body, leaving the West End star disappointed.

Then when it came to Craig, who is known for being the harshest judge on the panel, he exclaimed to his fellow judges: “Unnecessarily harsh.”

The simple two-word statement sent the studio into shock, with Amber jumping up and down on stage as Motsi Mabuse was left open-mouthed.

Craig continued: “There wasn’t, actually, that much wrong with it, I’ve got to say. I would have liked, maybe, a little bit more of a wide frame.

“You know, a bit more air between your chest and stuff but it was clean, it was passionate, it was full of purpose darling.”

He added: “I absolutely loved the little flashes of Argentine tango, it was – you are brilliant.”

A surprised Anton interjected: “Tell me the tables have turned.”

Craig simply replied: “I’m just being honest.”

Amber and Nikita were visibly pleased with Craig’s takedown of his peers, with the duo both beaming as they told host Tess Daly: “We love Craig”.

The pair later impressed with their second dance, which scored a clean sheet of 40 points.

The performance was a Couple’s Choice to Fly Me to the Moon, that paid homage to the golden era of Hollywood.

In the audience cheering them on was Amber’s West End star boyfriend, Ben Joyce, who was seen on camera sitting beside her doting mum.

The positive feedback comes after a tough week for Amber, who faced trolling after she won last week’s dance off, meaning fan favourite Lewis Cope was axed from the show.
