Coronation Street is making a couple of changes to adjust to star Jacob Roberts after he was seen using a crutch at the British Soap Awards.

The actor, who plays DC Kit Green in the ITV soap, was among those supporting Team Corrie at the star-studded bash on Saturday (May 31), which took place at London’s Hackney Empire.

Jacob was seen posing for the waiting cameras, looking smart in a beige suit with a crisp white shirt, which he paired with a dark pair of shoes.

Fans were quick to take to social media to question whether his supposed injury was to do with his character, with Kit recently seen getting on the wrong side of Mick Michaelis before his arrest for PC Craig Tinker’s horrifying death.

But all has now been explained, with Sharon Marshall bringing the gossip from the awards ceremony during the latest instalment of This Morning on Monday (June 2).

The ITV daytime show’s ‘Soap Queen’ said of the soap star as a picture of the pair appeared on-screen: “Lots of people asking why ‘Fit Kit’ there is on crutches, Jacob’s had an operation on his leg in real life.”

She added: “They’re going to build that into the scripts so you will see ‘Fit Kit’ on his crutches there as well.”

Jacob recently marked a year since he made his on-screen debut as Kit. The former Hollyoaks actor first appeared as Bernie Winter’s long-lost son in May 2024.

His arrival came after Bernie confessed that she’d welcomed a third child, Zodiac, after twins, Paul Foreman and Gemma Winter-Brown, but that she was struggling with the financial burden of raising the three children and so decided to give her youngest child up for adoption.

It’s fair to say that Kit and Bernie didn’t get off to the best of starts, with the former struggling to accept being given up for adoption by his biological mother, as well as their reunion coming amid the death of his adoptive mother.

Since then, particularly following the death of Bernie’s son, and Kit’s half-brother, Paul, Kit has softened towards his biological mum and half-sister Gemma but still hasn’t completely let his walls down and has continued to ruffle feathers elsewhere on the street.

But his past has since been explored, with flashbacks to 2007 showing his link to Mick and his wife Lou, who first appeared in Weatherfield back in February as part of a new family described as ‘nightmare neighbours’.

Kit is now caught up in a paternity scandal, after it was revealed that he could be the father of Lou’s teenage son, Brody, who has now made his way onto the street having been released from the Secure Training Centre (STC).
