THE TRAITORS Contestant Reveals One Piece Of Tech Allowed On Show – And It’s Not What You’d Expect

The Traitors contestants are severed from the real world when they enter the competition but a former star has revealed the one gadget that they are permitted to use

The Traitors, fronted by Claudia Winkleman, will becoming back for a special series

The Traitors has finally returned for its third season and fans are gearing up for more betrayal and banishments.

Presented by Claudia Winkelman, the competition sees 22 contestants divided into two groups: the Faithfuls and the Traitors. To win a dazzling cash prize of up to £120,000, the contestants must identify and eliminate the Traitors. If they fail to do so, the Traitors who make it to the final will take home the entire prize pot.

The BBC hit is famous for stripping contestants of all technology and immersing them in the twisty game, set in the Scottish Highlands. However, a cast member from the inaugural season has revealed that there is one old-school gadget that participants are allowed to use.

Speaking to Reach’s Screen Time before the latest instalment, former contestant Theo Mayne revealed that the most challenging aspect of starting the show was losing everything. “They take your phone away from you immediately,” he stated.

However, Theo remembered that the stars were given a different phone. “You are given a handy little Nokia, so you can contact production if you need anything – I remember playing Snake on it. But as soon as you go to the castle, they take it away from you. We were completely immersed; there was no outside world.

“It was just Claudia Winkleman, Scottish Highlands and a castle. That’s all, that’s everything,” he quipped.

Aged 26 when he entered the series, Theo quickly became a fan favourite before being eliminated in episode nine. His shocking exit came after a betrayal vote from fellow contestant Amanda Lovett, who had previously claimed she trusted him.

Despite being banished, the Leeds-based actor and cheerleading coach looks back on his TV stint fondly. When quizzed about the rest of the original cast, he shared that they are still in contact.

“I keep in touch with Meryl Williams, Hannah Byczkowski, Alyssa Chan, Amanda Lovett, Claire Barratt and I’m very close to Kieran Tompsett.

“I think when you go through an experience like that with people it bonds you for life. Because I’m only ever going to be able to talk to them about what we’ve experienced. Because nobody else will understand.”

Season one was won by faithfuls Hannah, Meryl and Aaron Evans.

The Traitors returns tonight at the later time of 9pm on BBC1 and iPlayer
