The One Show presenter Alex Jones is hosting Saturday Kitchen Live this morning with chef Bryn Williams.

Alex Jones has candidly discussed the “downhill” battles her husband faced away from public view.

The One Show’s Alex Jones will be filling in for Matt Tebbutt this weekend, partnering with chef Bryn Williams to present Saturday Kitchen Live on 7 March, on BBC One.

The Welsh presenter will be accompanied by chefs Mike Reid and Adejoke Bakare, who are prepared to whip up a culinary delight, along with comedian Phil Wang.

Alex has been wedded to insurance broker Charles Thomson since 2015, and they have three children. They now live in the Berkshire countryside, having relocated from London.

However, the journey hasn’t always been smooth sailing for the family of five. The 48 year old host revealed in 2023 that her husband had experienced a mental health crisis.

She disclosed that Charles descended into severe depression, becoming a “shadow of himself” after being diagnosed with Lyme disease and viral meningitis.

Speaking on Gabby Logan’s podcast The MidPoint, Alex remembered watching him “fall apart” as he grappled with his physical health but thankfully shared that he is in a “much better place now”.

Last year, she spoke candidly on Jamie Laing’s Great Company podcast about her feelings during her husband’s mental health struggles. “I thought I’d been depressed but then I saw it and thought ‘no I haven’t’,” she started.

“You have to let go of judgement and I found it really hard. I had to bite my tongue so hard from saying, ‘Come on. Let’s go for a walk. Come on.’

“And I said to a friend ‘Come on, let’s go for a drink.’ Don’t be so ridiculous.

“This person could not get out of bed let alone put some clothes on and go for a drink. I hadn’t understood it and that’s my own failing.”

Matters appear to be improving for the family-of-five, however, as towards the close of 2025, they enjoyed some time in Charles’ homeland of New Zealand.

Alex posted on Instagram on New Year’s Eve to reveal it marked their 10th wedding anniversary, having exchanged vows in a stunning ceremony at Cardiff Castle.

Accompanying several throwback photographs from the occasion, she penned: “Today, we celebrate 10 years as husband and wife. Then and now.

“We married in the northern hemisphere so it was only right to mark a decade, with our children in the southern hemisphere. It’s all about compromise [laughing emoji].

“We are so grateful to our family and friends who made that day extremely special and continue to make life a lot of fun!”
