Fans of the Today Show are begging an A-list celebrity to take over hosting duties and appear on the daily program regularly.

Actor Tom Hanks, 68, sat down with host Savannah Guthrie, 53, to talk about the new documentary series he narrates, The Americas. In a snipped shared on social media, Savannah asked the Forrest Gump star, “Are you going to come co-anchor with me ever?”

Tom replied, “Wouldn’t that be great?” Savannah said, “Wouldn’t it?” But the actor seemed hesitant as he said, “I’m not getting up that early, lady.” And Savannah told him, “Come on.” He then said, “And I am not reading all that research.”

Savannah then came up with a plan, saying, “One day, we’ll do it as a gag. You’ll have something you want to protest.” But Tom then seemed to change his mind and said, “No, I’m sorry, it would have to be for the full week.” The show host then asked, “For the whole week?” And he confirmed, “For the whole week.”

She then said, “Okay, done. Twist my arm.” Tom then clarified, “By the way, I will be cranky on Friday morning.” To which Savannah replied, “That’s fine.” As Tom joked about a potential scenario showing him in a bad mood on the show, Savannah said, “Your cranky is, like, everyone else’s best day.”

Tom replied, “I will say when I’m cranky, I’m pretty damn hilarious, I must say.” Savannah then added, “Okay, good. Let’s do it.” As the clip cut to the TV studio, Savannah and her co-hosts discussed having Tom on the show, as she said, “He went from, ‘I’ll never do that,’ to ‘Well, I want the whole week.'”

The video was posted on Instagram by the official account of the NBC show, with the caption, “Tom Hanks, our couch is always open for you. Come co-anchor with @savannahguthrie and @craigmelvinnbc whenever you want!”

Fans were excited at the idea of Tom anchoring the show, as one wrote, “Please!!!!” Another commented, “Please let Tom Hanks to be on Today Show.” One more said, “Would love to see him co-host.” Someone else shared, “Tom, we’ll buy you first egg sandwich (which now will be more than a steak dinner) together with a large coffee to keep those eyes open.”

It comes after Savannah, who recently announced that she was planning on stepping away from the show while she goes on tour for her new book, said she wasn’t on air on Tuesday as she headed on a family trip to Palm Beach, Florida, with her family. The host posted snaps of her and her family soaking in the sun, playing in the pool, and enjoying a round of bingo. They stayed at The Colony Hotel in Palm Beach.

The caption read, “Turns out all they needed was more sunshine, more pink, more bingo, more pink, more warmth, more pink drinks, more time more together.” She also shared a surprise guest she ran into on her trip. She posted a selfie with Hoda Kotb while they were at dinner, saying, “Oh and a bonus @hodakotb sighting for a little extra.”
