Kansas City Chiefs icon Travis Kelce is a huge fan of Ohio State and is desperate to see the Buckeyes win the College Football Playoff National Championship
Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce is rooting for his home state Ohio State in the CFP National Championship game, despite his girlfriend Taylor Swift’s family ties to rival team Notre Dame.
As he prepares for his team’s NFL Divisional Round playoff clash with the Houston Texans, the 35-year-old is also keen to support the Buckeyes as the College Football Playoff quickly approaches.
The Cleveland Heights, Ohio native is hoping to see the program secure its ninth national title this year, even if it means causing a bit of tension with his partner. With Ohio State and Notre Dame set to face off on Jan. 20, there could be some friction as Swift is reportedly a Fighting Irish fan.
The ‘Anti Hero’ singer’s brother, Austin Swift, graduated from Notre Dame in 2015, leading some to believe that the family will be cheering for their team in the CFP National Championship game. However, during an appearance on ‘The Pat McAfee Show’ on Monday, Kelce confirmed that he’ll be supporting Ohio State in the upcoming match.
The former Cincinnati college sensation, a die-hard Buckeyes supporter, gushed about his passion for Ohio football during an interview. He declared: “If football’s going on, I’m watching it, man. Especially when the Buckeyes are making a run at it. I’m just an Ohio football guy, man. I’m cheering for all Ohio football, baby.”
However, in a playful twist, his brother Jason Kelce ribbed him on ‘New Heights’, claiming he was actually a Michigan fan: “No, you liked Michigan. Just stop flexing right now. You were always a Michigan fan” – a statement that prompted guest Caitlin Clark to chime in with a chuckle: “You can’t like Michigan and Ohio State. Michigan and Ohio State fans are not going to be happy about that.”

Amidst the banter, the Chiefs icon also touched on whether Taylor Swift would grace Arrowhead Stadium for the NFL Divisional Round game against the Texans.
When Pat McAfee prodded about the potential ‘aura’ her presence could bring, Kelce confidently responded: “Oh yeah, you know it baby. It’s playoff football, man” McAfee then teased: “Is she undefeated? I just want to let you know what live bettors do. They see her walk in the stadium, immediately open the phone and it’s like, ‘Yep, Chiefs are about to win’. Ay, you’re a gentleman pal.”
The Kansas City football star didn’t shy away from addressing the doubters, saying: “We’ve definitely heard all the chatter, and guys like Rex Ryan, saying this team can’t win in the playoffs, and he’s seen it before, and we hear everything.
“But at the same time, we know what’s real, and what’s in this building. That’s guys who want to be accountable for the one next to him and are going to keep finding ways to be accountable week in and week out.”
