TV CHAOS: Richard Madeley ABRUPTLY WALKS off GMB studio and leaves Kate Garraway alone in SICKENING ANNOUNCEMENT
Good Morning Britain was thrown into chaos as presenter Richard Madeley left Kate Garraway to present a segment alone after abruptly walking off set during the episode which aired on Monday August 25. The 69-year-old veteran presenter and Kate, 58, had welcomed a guest to the show to discuss the lack of public toilets in the UK. Raymond Martin, managing director of the British Toilet Association, said there are now almost half as many public toilets as there were 25 years ago, and claimed Britain is facing a “national crisis of convenience”.
However all the talk of bathrooms was too much for Richard who found himself forced to answer the call of nature. “Talking about it, now I need to go on a break.” he said as everyone laughed assuming it was a joke. “That’s the psychological impact of it. Well, I’ll think about you when I spend a penny,” he quipped turning to Raymond.
“That’s good,” Raymond laughed as Kate chimed in: “Good thing you’ve got a good sense of humour.”
Undeterred Kate continued to present the show telling viewers singer Tom Speight would be joining them shortly.
Meanwhile Richard couldn’t wait any longer and abruptly got out of his seat and began to walk off set to go to the toilet forcing Kate to present a section of the show alone as she pointed out: “Richard is off the loo now.”
The pair didn’t address Richard’s disappearance from the show after the break when he was back on our screens to carry on with the rest of the programme.
This comes just a fortnight after Richard’s future on the show was revealed amidst a slew of ITV cuts.
He has reportedly signed “a short-term deal” to stay on the ITV breakfast show for the time being having initially joined the programme in 2021 following Piers Morgan’s departure.
According to MailOnline, Richard has agreed to a “six-month contract that is to begin in September.” They also reported that it comes as part of a “temporary arrangement while ITV reviews its presenter line-up.”
They also reported that lead presenter Susanna Reid is the only anchor “guaranteed a longer-term deal.” It follows the news that ITV will undergo a drastic reshuffle in January 2026 in a bid to save millions, with bosses trimming shows such as Lorraine to just 30 minutes.
