Former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney was arrested on February 6 after being accused of str@ngling a woman.
According to jail records from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Toney was placed behind bars earlier this month and charged with one count of aggravated assault-str@ngulation and one count of obstructing/harassing 911 Calls. His bond was set at $25,000 for each count.

During an alleged physical altercation that transpired at a Georgia residence on January 14, Toney is accused of placing his hands around a woman’s throat and squeezing “with enough force to cause her to be unable to breath,” per TMZ Sports. The 26-year-old is said to have additionally taken the victim’s phone in order to ensure that she wouldn’t be able to call the police.
On the heels of the alleged incident, doctors noted that the woman in question suffered red marks on her neck and petechial hemorrhaging in her eyes. An arrest warrant was subsequently issued for Toney on January 15.
Back in 2021, the Giants selected Toney with the No. 20 overall pick in the NFL Draft. The University of Florida product’s tenure in the Big Apple swiftly came to end, however, as New York traded him to the Chiefs for a future third round pick in October of 2022.
Following the midseason deal, Toney appeared in seven regular season games with the Chiefs before helping propel Kansas City to victory in Super Bowl LVII. The speedster reeled in a five-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Patrick Mahomes in the fourth quarter and returned a punt 65 yards into the Philadelphia Eagles’ red zone minutes later.

The following year, Toney received his second Super Bowl ring after the Chiefs secured a 25-22 win over the San Francisco 49ers in SBLVIII – though he failed to record a single playoff stat that season.
Ahead of the 2024-25 campaign, the Chiefs parted ways with Toney, who eventually signed with the Cleveland Browns. When asked about the decision to cut the wideout, general manager Brett Veach suggested that he showed up to training camp out of shape.
“I’m certainly sure that there would be things that he would do different, in regards to just some of the offseason stuff and taking care of the body,” Veach told reporters at the time. “But again, I think it’s a process. He’s a really smart kid, and I do think he’ll figure it out. And I think he’ll end up making plays for a team down the road here.
“Sometimes you can make some bad luck turn into good luck by just doing some little things in the offseason, take care of your body. And I think that’s a process he’s working through. And again, it’s certainly not for a lack of talent. That’s a situation where I think, when you move on from players like that, I think everyone feels disappointed.”
