This week’s episodes of Emmerdale had us completely gripped, especially with the intense build-up of tension surrounding Joe Tate’s storyline and the shocking moment he took a dramatic plunge from the upstairs window at Home Farm. The sense of impending doom was brilliantly executed, making for an edge-of-your-seat viewing experience that reminded us why we love the show. However, as thrilling as the episodes were, there were still a few moments that didn’t quite add up. As always, Emmerdale delivered plenty of drama, but certain plot points left us scratching our heads and wondering if a few more explanations might have helped things make a bit more sense. From character choices to timeline inconsistencies, here are the standout moments that had us questioning what really went down in the village this week.

1 Why didn’t anyone try to stop Gail leaving?
We are so sad to see Gail leave Emmerdale for the wilds of Devon. We thought she had a lot of potential behind the bar of the Woolpack so it’s a shame she’s going. Though clearly no one else agreed with us because no one tried to stop her going. Not even her boyfriend Ryan who didn’t seem that bothered.
We’ll miss you, Gail! Even if no one else will. Mind you, we reckon Charity’s going to feel Gail’s loss – she might even have to do a bit of work for once!

2 What was Ross thinking in Emmerdale this week?
We love Ross and we won’t hear a word against him, but come on, Barton. You’re not making this easy for us, are you?! Ross had barely broken up with Steph when he was making eyes at Manpreet. And after a quick flirtation over the pool table they were spending the night together.
To add insult to injury, Ross was pretty dismissive of Manpreet the next morning too. Not cool, Ross.
We thought he really liked Steph and perhaps he does, but this isn’t the way to show it!

3 Kerry’s sequins
Gail organised a trial run of her Mr & Mrs quiz at Pamper Manda. It was Pandy – Paddy and Mandy – against Gyan – Gail and Ryan. The quiz itself was quite fun. And it reminded us why we liked Gail (WHY did no one stop her leaving?!).
But Kerry was the quizmaster and she was unimpressed by her sequinned quizmaster jacket. She pointed out that she was, like, really sad, about Amy dying and that meant she didn’t want to wear sparkles. And yes, she put it on, but she did so grudgingly.
It sort of made sense. Until Kerry turned up at Lydia’s party bedazzled from head to toe in sparkly sequins.

4 Missing Lydia in Emmerdale this week
And talking of Lydia’s party. WHY wasn’t the birthday girl there?! Yes, we know. Flat tyre. Traffic. Yadda yadda. But it is weird to hold a party without the guest of honour.
And weirder still to ‘say a few words’ when they’re not there.
And weirder even still for the guest of honour to get her mate to snuggle up close for a dance with her husband on her behalf.
We get that everyone had to be at Home Farm for the Big Reveal of all Joe’s crimes. But it didn’t make a whole lot of sense to us!

5 The return of DS Desari
Picture the scene. Hotten CID. In comes the report of someone falling from a window at Home Farm. Who’s the right man for the job?
Well, DS Desari of course! He knows the score. He’s investigated crimes just like this one. Almost exactly the same as this one in fact. And did he smash the case and bring the criminal to justice back in 2006/2007?
Erm, not exactly.
In fact, the killer – Carl King – swanned round the village for another FIVE YEARS after the murder before he finally got his comeuppance by being whacked over the head by serial killer Cameron Murray.
Back in 2007, Desari’s partner, DCI Barraclough, seduced Carl, got him to confess, then got run over by a lorry. Let’s hope this investigation doesn’t take a similar turn, eh Desari?
SHE WASN’T A REAL NURSE! (Credit: ITV)
6 Liam’s dodgy moral compass
Wendy, as we never tired of pointing out when she was still living in Emmerdale, was a FAKE NURSE. Her qualification was invalid. She had been struck off. And yet, Liam – possibly blinded by the sizzling sexual chemistry he shared with Wendy – didn’t seem that bothered.
But when Manpreet fessed up to doing some blood tests for Caleb having been tricked into it by Joe as part of his kidney scam – making her just as much of a victim of his duplicity as Caleb or Noah, strictly speaking – Liam was FUMING.
Even Manpreet pointed out that his reaction made no sense. Which frankly is the first time Manpreet herself has made sense for weeks.
